Add new DropFunnels course members to a Mailchimp audience

When someone becomes a course member in DropFunnels, this workflow adds them to the Mailchimp audience you choose, or updates them if they’re already there, so you can email your students.

The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Selling a course in DropFunnels is only the start. You want to welcome new students, remind them to log in and tell them about the next module, and Mailchimp may be where you send those emails. This workflow puts each new course member into your Mailchimp audience.

A student joining one of your courses fires the DropFunnels trigger. FlowMattic sends the member's email and name to Mailchimp, where Add New Member adds them to the audience you pick, or updates them if they already exist there.

Because the Mailchimp action updates existing members, a student already on your list is not duplicated. Every new course member is sent, whichever course they joined, unless you add a condition. Task History keeps a record of each run and Mailchimp's response.

Welcome sequence for new students

A course creator adds each new DropFunnels member to a Mailchimp audience whose welcome automation sends login help and a first-week plan.

Announcing new course content

When you release a new module, a Mailchimp campaign reaches every student who joined through DropFunnels.

Lead magnet subscribers who buy

Students already on your Mailchimp list from a free lead magnet are updated rather than duplicated when they buy the course.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    DropFunnels Course Member Created

Starts a run each time DropFunnels adds a member to a course. The member's email, name and other details are passed on to Mailchimp.

  2. Step 2Action
    Mailchimp Add New Member

Adds the member to your Mailchimp audience, or updates them if the address is already there. Connect Mailchimp, choose the audience, and map the email and name fields.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • DropFunnels AccountAccount
  • Mailchimp AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Add Mailchimp's Add Member Tag action after this step, for example with the course name, so you can send course-specific campaigns.
  • If you sell more than one course and want them in different audiences, add a Router with one route per course, each with its own Mailchimp step.
  • Create a test course member in DropFunnels after import, then map the email and name fields from that sample.

Questions about this workflow

What if the DropFunnels student is already in my Mailchimp audience?

Add New Member adds a new member or updates them if they already exist, so the student is updated rather than added twice.

Does this send a Mailchimp email by itself?

No. Its only job is putting the student into the audience. Any welcome email comes from automations you set up in Mailchimp.

Will students who enrolled before import be added?

No. Only course members created after the workflow is switched on are sent to Mailchimp.

Is the DropFunnels member added to Mailchimp right away?

The Mailchimp step runs straight after the trigger, in the same run that starts when the course member is created. Task History shows the time of each run.

It is self hosted and wordpress based. So you can effectively run this on any shared hosting with unlimited tasks. And new integrations are constantly being added. It's crazy how valuable this tool is.

The software works really well, and the team is adding integrations constantly, so I'm positive it eventually will catch up with Zapier. The flows are very easy to create and if you have any doubt, the team will give you great support.
