What this workflow does

Masteriyo handles courses and student accounts on your WordPress site, but your newsletters and course announcements probably go out from Mailchimp. Without a link between them, someone has to export new students and import them into Mailchimp, and new learners miss emails in the meantime. This workflow passes every new Masteriyo student to Mailchimp at registration.

The Masteriyo trigger, Student Registration, fires when a new student registers. FlowMattic receives the student's details and passes them to Mailchimp. The Add New Member step adds that person to the audience you choose, or updates them if their address is already in it, so returning contacts are not duplicated.

The trigger is registration, not enrolment, so the student goes into Mailchimp once they have an account, whether or not they have joined a course yet. Make sure your registration form tells students they will get emails, since Mailchimp expects permission from everyone on your audience. Task History records each run and Mailchimp's reply.

To add students only when they join a course, switch the trigger to Masteriyo's Student Enrolled event. Registration alone will then not add anyone.
Register a test student after import so FlowMattic captures Masteriyo's real field names, then map the email and name in the Mailchimp step.
Masteriyo also has an Instructor Registration trigger. Copy this workflow, switch to that event and pick another audience if you want your instructors on their own list.

Questions about this workflow

What if the Masteriyo student is already in my Mailchimp audience?

Add New Member adds new people or updates existing members, so the student is not added twice. Blank values in a later registration may overwrite fields, so map only fields Masteriyo fills in.

Does a student need to enrol in a course to be added?

No. The trigger fires on registration, so a student is added once their account exists. Use the Student Enrolled trigger if you want enrolment to be the moment instead.

Are students who registered before I imported this added?

No. Only registrations made while the workflow is on reach Mailchimp. Import earlier students into Mailchimp separately.

Do I need Masteriyo on the same site as FlowMattic?

Yes. The Student Registration trigger listens to Masteriyo running on the same WordPress site where FlowMattic is installed.
