Add new RSS feed items to Airtable as records

Each new item in an RSS feed you choose is saved as a record in an Airtable table, building a searchable archive of articles, posts or releases from that feed without copying links by hand.

The Add new RSS feed items to Airtable as records workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 2 steps across RSS Feed, Airtable
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

RSS feeds are a simple way to follow blogs, news sites, podcasts and release notes, but a feed reader is not a good place to sort, tag or share what you find. Airtable is. This workflow saves each new feed item as a record so you can work with it there.

The RSS Feed trigger watches the feed URL you enter and starts a run for each new item. FlowMattic passes the item's data, such as its title, link and publish date, to Airtable. Create Record then adds a row to the base and table you pick, with each value in the field you mapped.

Once the items are in Airtable you can add your own fields for status, notes or owner and build views on top. The workflow only adds records. It does not change them later or remove ones that drop off the feed. Each run, with the item it carried, appears in Task History.

Content curation for a newsletter

Follow industry blogs by RSS. Each new article lands in Airtable, where you tick the ones to include in this week's newsletter.

Competitor watch

Track a competitor's blog or changelog feed. Your team adds notes to each record in Airtable as new posts appear.

Podcast episode archive

Point the trigger at a podcast feed and keep a table of every new episode with its title and link for show notes.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
RSS Feed New Item in RSS Feed

Watches the RSS feed URL you set and starts a run for each new item. The item's title, link and other feed data are passed to Airtable.

  2. Step 2Action
    Airtable Create Record

Adds a record to your chosen Airtable base and table. Map the feed item's values to your Airtable fields and connect your Airtable account.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Airtable AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Following several feeds? FlowMattic's RSS Feed app also has a New Item in Multiple RSS Feeds trigger, which you can swap in to watch them all from one workflow.
  • Add a Filter after the trigger that continues only when the item title contains a keyword, so only relevant posts become records.
  • Add a checkbox or single-select field in Airtable for review status, so the team can mark which items they have read.

Questions about this workflow

Will old RSS items be added to Airtable when I turn it on?

The trigger is for new items. Check a test run after setup to see which item FlowMattic picks up first, then turn the workflow on.

Which RSS fields can I store in Airtable?

Whatever the feed provides for each item, commonly the title, link, description and date. Run the trigger once to see the fields from your feed.

What if a feed item is updated after it was added?

The existing Airtable record stays as it was. The workflow only creates records for new items.

Must the Airtable table for RSS items exist before import?

Yes. Create the base and table with fields for the values you want, then map them in the Create Record step.
