The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Selling digital products through Lemon Squeezy gets you customers, but your emails probably go out from Mailchimp. Exporting buyers and importing them into an audience is a chore that falls behind. This workflow puts each buyer into Mailchimp when the order is created.

The Lemon Squeezy trigger is Order Created, which fires when a new order is created in your store. FlowMattic passes the order data to Mailchimp. Its Add New Member action adds the buyer to the audience you choose, or updates them if they already exist, so a repeat buyer isn't added twice.

Each order runs the workflow, so people who buy again have their member record updated each time. Map the buyer's email and any name details from the order. Place a test order and look at the new member in Mailchimp to confirm the status they get matches your consent rules.

Ebook author building a reader list

Each ebook sold through Lemon Squeezy adds the reader to a Mailchimp audience, where you announce the next book.

Software maker sending onboarding tips

Buyers of a desktop app land in Mailchimp, ready for a short series of setup emails sent from there.

Template shop cross-selling

Customers who buy one design pack join your audience, so you can tell them about related packs in your next campaign.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Lemon Squeezy Order Created

Starts each time a customer places an order with your Lemon Squeezy store. The order and customer data become available to map into Mailchimp.

  2. Step 2Action
    Mailchimp Add New Member

Adds the buyer to your Mailchimp audience, or updates the member if that email is already there. Connect Mailchimp, choose the audience and map the order's email and name.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Lemon Squeezy AccountAccount
  • Mailchimp AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Add Mailchimp Add Member Tag after this step to tag buyers with the product name, so you can tell customers of different products apart.
  • Add a Filter if only some products should reach Mailchimp, comparing the product value you see in a test order.
  • Build a second workflow on Lemon Squeezy Order Refunded that tags refunded buyers in Mailchimp, so they can be left out of upsell campaigns.

Questions about this workflow

What happens when a returning Lemon Squeezy customer orders again?

Add New Member updates the existing Mailchimp member instead of adding a duplicate. The workflow still runs for the order, so mapped fields are refreshed.

Are refunded Lemon Squeezy orders removed from Mailchimp?

No. Only Order Created starts this Mailchimp sync. Use the Order Refunded trigger in another workflow if refunds should change anything in Mailchimp.

Do buyers have to agree to marketing emails?

That depends on your local rules and your Lemon Squeezy checkout. The workflow adds whoever placed an order, so collect consent where you need it and check with a test order how the member appears in Mailchimp.

It's an exceptional product. Works great and extremely valuable. I saved thousands of dollard on Zapier, as Flowmattic makes me able to host the automation myself. And very deeply integrates with the products I need.

Tijn

Ease of use and terrific support from the founder. Tons of integrations and regular updates. The Flowmattic custom app is great especially if you want to integrate apps that aren't available yet inside Flowmattic.
