Summarize the WordPress blog post entry using relevant AI model using OpenRouter AI and send the summary to Slack channel
When a post goes live on your WordPress site, FlowMattic sends it to an AI model of your choice through OpenRouter for a summary, then posts that summary to a Slack channel so your team knows what was published.

What this workflow does
Your team may want to know what the blog publishes, but few people read every article the day it goes out. A short summary in Slack tells sales, support and the rest of marketing what the post covers and lets them decide whether to open it. This workflow writes that summary with AI and posts it for you.
A run starts when a post moves to published for the first time, through the WordPress New Post trigger. Edits to a post that's already live don't fire it, and pages never do. FlowMattic passes the post's content to OpenRouter AI, where Create a Completion sends your prompt and the post text to the model you pick and returns the reply.
The Slack step then runs Send Channel Message, posting the AI's summary, along with any post details you add such as the title and link, to your chosen channel. The summary is only as good as your prompt, so write it to say how long it should be and what to include. Task History logs every run, including the text the model returned.
Content team announcing new articles
Each published post appears in #marketing as a three-sentence summary with a link, so the social media manager can start on promotion without reading the full piece.
Support staff keeping up with help posts
A software company publishes how-to articles on its WordPress blog. Support agents get a Slack summary of each one and know which guide to send customers.
Agency reporting to a client channel
An agency writes posts for a client's site. A summary of every published post goes to a shared Slack channel the client reads.
How this workflow runs
What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.
WordPress New PostFires once when a post is first published on your WordPress site, including custom post types unless you limit the trigger to one type. Later edits and pages don't fire it.
OpenRouter AI Create a CompletionSends your prompt with the post's content to the AI model you choose on OpenRouter and returns the completion. Map the post content into the prompt and tell the model how to summarise it.
Slack Send Channel MessagePosts the summary to a Slack channel. Map the OpenRouter reply into the message, add the post title and link from the trigger, and connect your Slack workspace.
What you need
- FlowMatticCore
- OpenRouter AI AccountAccount
- Slack AccountAccount
After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.
Make it yours
Changes worth making after you import it.
- Spell out the format in your prompt, for example three sentences in plain language with no heading, so every Slack summary looks the same.
- Limit the New Post trigger to the post type you blog with if your site also publishes products or other custom post types you don't want summarised.
- Add a Filter after the trigger that continues only for posts in a chosen category, if only some topics matter to the team reading the Slack channel.
Questions about this workflow
If I edit a live WordPress post, does OpenRouter summarise it again for Slack?
No. The New Post trigger fires only when a post first moves to published. Editing it afterwards doesn't start another run.
Which AI model does OpenRouter use for the summary?
The one you select in the Create a Completion step. OpenRouter gives access to models from several providers, so you can change the model later without rebuilding the workflow.
Can the summary go to a private Slack channel instead?
Swap Send Channel Message for Slack's Send Private Channel Message action and set it up for the private channel your team uses.
What if my WordPress posts are very long?
Long posts make longer prompts, and some models accept less text than others. Test with your longest recent post and pick a model that handles it.
