Log every GrowthBook experiment to a Google Sheets changelog

Each time an experiment is created in GrowthBook, FlowMattic appends a row to a Google Sheets changelog, giving your team one shared list of every experiment set up.

GrowthBook Google Sheets

2 steps Setup ~5 min Used on 1.5k sites Free to import

The Log every GrowthBook experiment to a Google Sheets changelog workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 2 steps across GrowthBook, Google Sheets
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Experiments pile up. After a few months, nobody remembers which tests were started, when, or by whom, and GrowthBook alone is not where every stakeholder looks. This workflow keeps a spreadsheet changelog that grows each time a new experiment is set up.

The GrowthBook trigger runs on Experiment Created. FlowMattic takes the experiment data GrowthBook sends and passes it to Google Sheets. The Add New Row action writes one row per experiment to the sheet you pick, with the values you map in each column.

The log records creation only. Results, status changes and later edits in GrowthBook are not written back, so add your own columns for outcomes and fill them in as tests finish. Task History keeps every run if you need to check what was logged.

Quarterly experiment reviews

Growth teams open the sheet at the end of a quarter to see every GrowthBook experiment created in that period, then add notes on what each one taught them.

Stakeholders without GrowthBook access

Executives and marketers read the shared changelog in Google Sheets instead of needing their own GrowthBook login.

Avoiding duplicate tests

Before planning a new test, search the sheet to see whether a similar GrowthBook experiment was already created.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    GrowthBook Experiment Created

Runs when someone creates an experiment in your GrowthBook account. The experiment data GrowthBook sends is available to map into the spreadsheet.

  2. Step 2Action
    Google Sheets Add New Row

Writes a new row to the Google Sheets changelog you choose. Map the GrowthBook values you want to columns and connect your Google account.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • GrowthBook AccountAccount
  • Google Sheets AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Create a test experiment in GrowthBook after import so you can see the real data and decide which values become columns.
  • Add columns of your own, such as result and decision, to the right of the mapped ones. The workflow fills its columns and leaves yours for notes.
  • Add a Slack step after Google Sheets if the team should also hear about each new GrowthBook experiment as it is logged.

Questions about this workflow

Does the changelog update when a GrowthBook experiment ends?

No. Only Experiment Created starts this workflow, so the sheet shows when tests were set up, not how they ended.

Will experiments I already have in GrowthBook be logged?

No. Only experiments created after the workflow is on reach the sheet. Add older ones to the changelog by hand if you want a complete history.

Can I log GrowthBook features in the same sheet?

Yes. Build a second workflow with the GrowthBook Feature Created trigger and point its Google Sheets step at the same spreadsheet, perhaps on another tab.

It is self hosted and wordpress based. So you can effectively run this on any shared hosting with unlimited tasks. And new integrations are constantly being added. It's crazy how valuable this tool is.

The software works really well, and the team is adding integrations constantly, so I'm positive it eventually will catch up with Zapier. The flows are very easy to create and if you have any doubt, the team will give you great support.
