Add a Claude AI completion as a comment on every new Todoist task
Each new Todoist task is sent to Claude with the prompt you write, and the reply Claude generates is added back to that task as a comment, so ideas, steps or drafts sit next to the to-do.

What this workflow does
A task title like "Plan the product launch email" is a starting point, not a plan. This workflow hands every new Todoist task to Claude and puts the answer on the task itself, so when you open it you already have a first outline, a checklist or a draft to work from.
The Todoist New Task trigger starts a run whenever a task is created. The Anthropic (Claude) step then generates a completion. It ships unmapped: after import you connect your Anthropic account, write the prompt and map the task's content into it, for example "Break this task into five concrete steps: {task}".
The last step adds a comment to a Todoist task. Its comment text is already mapped to Claude's reply. The template doesn't yet say which task gets the comment, so point the step at the task from the trigger and confirm with a test run that the comment lands on the right one.
Every new task starts a run, including quick reminders like "buy milk". If you only want help on some tasks, add a Filter, as described in the tips. Task History shows the prompt sent, Claude's reply and Todoist's response for each run.
Step-by-step plans for vague tasks
You add "Prepare quarterly report" to Todoist and find a comment listing the sections to draft and the figures to gather.
First drafts for writing tasks
A freelancer who logs "Reply to client about delays" gets a short draft email from Claude as a comment, ready to edit and send.
Research prompts for a content backlog
A blogger adds post ideas as Todoist tasks, and Claude comments with possible angles, headings and questions the post should answer.
How this workflow runs
What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.
Todoist New TaskStarts the workflow whenever a new task is created in your Todoist account. The task's details, such as its content and ID, are passed on to Claude and to the comment step.
Anthropic (Claude) Create a CompletionAsks Claude to generate a completion from a prompt. The template leaves it empty, so connect your Anthropic account, write the instruction and map the Todoist task text into the prompt.
Todoist Add a Task CommentAdds a comment to a Todoist task with Claude's reply as the comment text. Point the step at the task that started the run, then check a test run.
What you need
- FlowMatticCore
- Todoist AccountAccount
- Anthropic (Claude) AccountAccount
After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.
Make it yours
Changes worth making after you import it.
- Put a Filter between the Todoist trigger and the Claude step that continues only when the task text contains a word you choose, such as "plan", so short reminders don't get a comment.
- Tell Claude in the prompt how long the reply should be and what format to use, such as a numbered list of up to five steps, so comments stay easy to read on your phone.
- Map the task's description as well as its title into the prompt if you often add notes when creating tasks, so Claude has more to work from.
Questions about this workflow
Where does Claude's reply end up in Todoist?
As a comment on the task that started the run, once you map that task's ID into the comment step. The task itself, its title and its due date stay as they were.
What does Claude get told about each Todoist task?
Whatever you put in the prompt. The Create a Completion step ships empty, so you write the instruction and map the task fields you want Claude to see.
Will tasks I already have in Todoist get comments?
No. The New Task trigger fires for tasks created after the workflow is turned on. Existing tasks stay as they are.
Does every new task cost an Anthropic API call?
Yes, as imported each new task starts a run that calls Claude once. A Filter between the trigger and the Claude step limits the calls to tasks that need help.
