Add new Hello Bar subscribers to a Mailchimp audience

Every new subscriber collected by a Hello Bar bar or popup is added to the Mailchimp audience you pick, or updated if already there, so the people who sign up on your site receive the campaigns you send from Mailchimp.

Hello Bar Mailchimp

The Add new Hello Bar subscribers to a Mailchimp audience workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 2 steps across Hello Bar, Mailchimp
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Hello Bar is good at catching email addresses from site visitors, but the place you actually email them from is Mailchimp. Moving subscribers between the two by export and import leaves gaps, and new sign-ups miss whatever you send in between. This workflow carries each one across as Hello Bar records it.

The Hello Bar trigger fires when a new subscriber is added to your Hello Bar contact list. Next, the new address goes to Mailchimp through its Add New Member action. That action puts the address on the audience you choose, and if the person is already a member, it updates them instead of making a second entry.

Every Hello Bar subscriber goes to the same audience, since the template has no conditions. You'll find each run in Task History, with the subscriber data sent and Mailchimp's response.

Top-bar newsletter sign-up

A food blog runs a Hello Bar strip asking readers to subscribe. Each address joins the Mailchimp audience that receives the weekly recipe email.

Discount offer for first-time shoppers

An online store shows a Hello Bar popup with a welcome code. Subscribers land in Mailchimp, where you send the follow-up emails about the offer.

Webinar interest list

A software company uses a Hello Bar slider to collect interest in an upcoming webinar and invites the resulting Mailchimp audience when registration opens.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Hello Bar New Subscriber

Fires when a new subscriber is added to your Hello Bar contact list. The subscriber's email and any other data Hello Bar sends are ready to map.

  2. Step 2Action
    Mailchimp Add New Member

Adds the subscriber to your chosen Mailchimp audience, or updates the existing member with the same address. Map the Hello Bar email to the member email and connect your Mailchimp account.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Hello Bar AccountAccount
  • Mailchimp AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Sign up through your own Hello Bar after import and check Task History to see which fields arrive, then map a name into Mailchimp if Hello Bar collects one.
  • If several Hello Bar campaigns feed one contact list, add a Filter on a value that identifies the campaign, if Hello Bar sends one, so only the right sign-ups join this audience.
  • Want a spreadsheet record as well? Add a Google Sheets Add New Row step after Mailchimp and map the same email, so you keep a dated list outside Mailchimp.

Questions about this workflow

What happens when a Hello Bar subscriber is already in my Mailchimp audience?

Add New Member updates that member rather than adding a duplicate, so the address appears once in your audience.

Are my existing Hello Bar subscribers copied to Mailchimp?

No. The trigger only covers subscribers added after you turn the workflow on. Export your current Hello Bar list and import it into Mailchimp once to catch up.

Does this remove subscribers from Hello Bar?

No. Hello Bar keeps its contact list as normal. The workflow copies each new subscriber to Mailchimp and changes nothing in Hello Bar.

Can Hello Bar sign-ups go to two Mailchimp audiences?

Yes. Add a second Add New Member step after the first one and choose the other audience in it, mapping the same email.

Was spending much more on Zapier and running out of tasks, now have unlimited tasks. Team is continuing to add integrations and taking feedback. Creator of company is ultra responsive to emails and helpful always.

It's an exceptional product. Works great and extremely valuable. I saved thousands of dollard on Zapier, as Flowmattic makes me able to host the automation myself. And very deeply integrates with the products I need.
