Create a FluentCRM contact for every new Recurly account

When a new account is created in Recurly, this workflow creates a matching contact in FluentCRM on your WordPress site, or updates the contact if that email is already there.

Recurly FluentCRM

2 steps Setup ~5 min Used on 2.8k sites Free to import

The Create a FluentCRM contact for every new Recurly account workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 2 steps across Recurly, FluentCRM
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Recurly knows who your subscribers are, and FluentCRM is where you email them. If the two don't talk, new subscribers miss your onboarding emails until someone exports a list. This workflow adds each new Recurly account to FluentCRM when it is created.

The Recurly trigger fires whenever an account is created. The account's details, including the email address, are passed on. The FluentCRM step then creates a contact from the values you map. FluentCRM matches contacts by email, so if that address already exists, the existing contact is updated instead of duplicated.

Your Recurly subscribers then live in the CRM on your own WordPress install. From there you can add tags, lists or automations in FluentCRM as usual. Task History keeps a record of each run and what Recurly sent.

Onboarding emails for new subscribers

A software company bills through Recurly. Each new account appears in FluentCRM, where a welcome sequence can be started for it.

Keeping a member newsletter list current

A membership site uses Recurly for billing and FluentCRM for its newsletter. New accounts join the CRM without anyone exporting a CSV.

Merging subscribers with existing leads

Someone who joined your FluentCRM list from a blog form later subscribes. Their contact is updated, not duplicated, when the Recurly account is created.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Recurly Account Created

Fires when an account is created in Recurly. The new account's details, such as the email address, are available to the FluentCRM step.

  2. Step 2Action
    FluentCRM Create or Update Contact

Creates a contact in FluentCRM, or updates the existing one with the same email. Map the Recurly email and any name values to the contact, then run a test to confirm.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Recurly AccountAccount
  • FluentCRM PluginPlugin

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Add a tag such as Recurly subscriber to the contact in the FluentCRM step if it offers tags, or with a second FluentCRM step, so you can segment billing customers.
  • Create a test account in Recurly after import so FlowMattic captures the account fields, then map them in the FluentCRM step.
  • Build a second workflow on Recurly's Subscription Updated trigger if you also want FluentCRM to hear about plan changes.

Questions about this workflow

What if the Recurly customer is already a FluentCRM contact?

The step is Create or Update Contact, which matches by email. The existing contact is updated with the mapped values rather than added twice.

Can the Recurly contacts go to FluentCRM on a different WordPress site?

No. FluentCRM is a WordPress plugin, and this step writes to the FluentCRM install on the same site where FlowMattic runs.

Are Recurly accounts created before import added to FluentCRM?

No. Only accounts created after you turn the workflow on start a run.

Does this sync subscription changes from Recurly?

No. It reacts only to new accounts. Plan changes and renewals need their own workflows on Recurly's other triggers.
