Create or update subscribers in MailerLite for new payments in Stripe

Each successful Stripe charge passes through a Filter you configure, and charges that pass create or update the paying customer as a MailerLite subscriber, so buyers end up on your email list.

The Create or update subscribers in MailerLite for new payments in Stripe workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 3 steps across Stripe, Filter, MailerLite
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

People who pay you are the audience you most want to email, yet Stripe and MailerLite don't share contacts on their own. Copying buyers across by hand is slow and easy to forget. This workflow adds them to MailerLite after each successful payment.

A run starts each time Stripe records a successful new charge on your account. The charge then reaches a Filter, which ships with no condition set. You decide after import what it checks, for example that the billing email is not empty or that the amount is above a figure. Charges that pass go to MailerLite, which creates a subscriber from the email you map, or updates the existing subscriber when that email is already there.

Because the trigger is a charge, a returning customer starts the workflow again on every payment. MailerLite updates their subscriber record instead of adding a duplicate. Task History shows each run and whether the Filter let it through.

Customer newsletter for a digital product

Everyone who buys your course or template through Stripe joins MailerLite, so product updates and new releases reach paying customers.

Only larger purchases join the list

Set the Filter on the charge amount so only buyers above a chosen figure are added, for example clients of a premium service.

Keeping buyer details current

A repeat customer pays with a new name on the card. The update path refreshes their MailerLite subscriber with whatever you map from the latest charge.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Stripe New Charge

Runs whenever a new charge in your Stripe account is created and succeeds. The charge details, including the billing information Stripe holds, become available to the next steps.

  2. Step 2Logic
    Filter Continue If Condition Meet

Checks the charge against the condition you add after import. When it is met, the run continues to MailerLite. When it is not, the run ends here and no subscriber is touched.

  3. Step 3Action
    MailerLite Create or Update Subscriber

Creates a MailerLite subscriber from the charge, or updates the existing one with the same email. Connect your MailerLite account and map the customer's email and any name or custom fields.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Stripe AccountAccount
  • MailerLite AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Set the Filter to continue only when the billing email exists, since a charge without one gives MailerLite nothing to create the subscriber from.
  • A Filter amount check compares whole numbers, and Stripe usually reports amounts in the smallest currency unit, so check a test charge to see what figure to type.
  • Add a MailerLite Add Subscriber to a Group step after the subscriber step to put buyers in a customers group you can target in campaigns.

Questions about this workflow

Will a customer who pays in Stripe twice get two MailerLite entries?

No. Create or Update Subscriber matches on email, so a second charge with the same address updates the existing subscriber.

Do failed Stripe payments reach MailerLite?

No. The New Charge trigger fires only for charges that are created and succeed, so declined payments never start a run.

What does the Filter check as imported?

It has no condition yet, and an empty Filter stops every run, so no buyer reaches MailerLite as imported. Set a condition after import, or delete the Filter if every successful charge should continue.

Should I ask Stripe customers for consent before adding them to MailerLite?

That depends on your laws and your checkout wording. The workflow adds every charge that passes the Filter, so make sure your terms cover email marketing.
