Log every Braintree transaction event in a Google Sheets spreadsheet

Each Braintree event you choose, such as a transaction notification, is written to a new Google Sheets row, giving you a running record of payment activity that you can sort and check.

Braintree Google Sheets

2 steps Setup ~5 min Used on 2.4k sites Free to import

The Log every Braintree transaction event in a Google Sheets spreadsheet workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 2 steps across Braintree, Google Sheets
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Braintree keeps its own records, but many teams want payment activity in a sheet they can sort, total and share. Exporting reports by hand gives you a snapshot that is out of date the next day. This workflow adds a row for each event as Braintree sends it.

The Braintree trigger is Custom Events, which fires for the events you choose. To log transactions, choose only the transaction-related events, so other notifications don't end up in the same sheet. The event data Braintree sends becomes available to map.

The Google Sheets step uses Add New Row. You pick the spreadsheet and map event fields, such as an amount, a status or a transaction ID if Braintree sends them, into its columns. Every event becomes its own row, so one transaction can appear more than once as its status moves on. You can review every logged event, and the row data sent for it, in Task History.

Daily reconciliation for a small finance team

Your bookkeeper checks the sheet each morning against bank deposits, with every Braintree transaction event already listed in date order.

Tracking disputes alongside payments

Choose dispute events as well as transaction events, and add a column for the event kind so the sheet shows both side by side.

Sharing payment activity without Braintree logins

A manager who has no Braintree access reads the shared Google Sheet to see recent transaction events.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Braintree Custom Events

Fires for each Braintree event you choose. Pick the transaction events you want logged. The event data is passed on for mapping, so send a test event first to see which fields arrive.

  2. Step 2Action
    Google Sheets Add New Row

Adds a row to your chosen Google Sheets spreadsheet for each event. Map the Braintree fields you want, such as the event kind and the transaction details, into the sheet's columns.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Braintree AccountAccount
  • Google Sheets AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Map the event kind into its own column. When several event types reach the sheet, that column lets you sort or filter them apart.
  • Add a Filter after the trigger if you later choose extra Braintree events but want only transaction events in this sheet.
  • Put the transaction ID in a column if Braintree sends it, so you can find every row for one payment when its status changes.

Questions about this workflow

Which Braintree events end up in the sheet?

The ones you choose in the Custom Events trigger. Every chosen event starts a run and adds a row, so choose only the transaction events if the sheet is meant for transactions.

Will one Braintree payment create several rows?

It can. Each event is logged separately, so a transaction that sends more than one event, for example as its status changes, appears on more than one row.

Does this change anything in Braintree?

No. The workflow only receives events and writes to Google Sheets. Your Braintree account and its data stay as they are.

It's an exceptional product. Works great and extremely valuable. I saved thousands of dollard on Zapier, as Flowmattic makes me able to host the automation myself. And very deeply integrates with the products I need.
