Send a Slack alert when a new Gainsight engagement is recorded

What this workflow does
Gainsight engagements are how you reach users inside your product, through dialogs, sliders, guides and surveys. The activity they create sits in Gainsight until someone goes looking. If your success team lives in Slack, a message in a shared channel puts that activity where they already work.
The Gainsight trigger fires for a Gainsight engagement event, a category that covers dialogs, sliders, guides and surveys. FlowMattic takes the event data Gainsight sends and hands it to Slack, where the Send Channel Message action posts to the channel you pick. You write the message and drop in event details such as the engagement name or the user it relates to.
Every event that reaches the trigger produces a message. If an engagement runs often, the channel gets busy; add a Filter after import when you only want some of them. Task History lists each run with the data that was posted.
Survey responses in a team channel
Each time a user answers an in-app survey, the Slack message can include the user and their answer, if Gainsight sends them with the event, so the account owner can read it the same day.
Tracking a new onboarding guide
During a guide's first weeks, posting each engagement event to a launch channel lets product and success staff see it being used.
Customer success hand-offs
A dedicated channel per segment receives engagement events, and the manager for that segment picks up conversations from there.
How this workflow runs
What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.
Gainsight EngagementFires for a Gainsight engagement event, covering dialogs, sliders, guides and surveys. The details Gainsight sends about the event are passed on for use in the Slack message.
Slack Send Channel MessageSends a message about the engagement to a Slack channel of your choice. Write the text and insert Gainsight event fields into it. Connect your Slack workspace on import and pick the channel.
What you need
- FlowMatticCore
- Gainsight AccountAccount
- Slack AccountAccount
After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.
Make it yours
Changes worth making after you import it.
- Add a Filter after the trigger so only certain engagements reach Slack, for example events whose engagement name matches the survey your team follows.
- Use a Router to send different engagements to different channels, giving each route a condition on a distinct engagement name and its own Slack step.
- Trigger a test engagement after import so FlowMattic captures the event's fields, then build the Slack message from them before turning the workflow on.
Questions about this workflow
Which Gainsight engagement types can start this workflow?
The trigger covers engagement events from dialogs, sliders, guides and surveys. Run a test after import to see which events reach FlowMattic and what data each one carries.
Will Slack get a message for every Gainsight engagement event?
Yes, as imported. There is no Filter, so each event the trigger receives posts a message. A Filter placed after the Gainsight trigger can limit which engagements get posted.
Can the Slack message mention the user from the Gainsight event?
You can insert any field Gainsight sends with the event into the message text. A test run shows which fields are available for that engagement.
Can I post the Gainsight alert to a private Slack channel?
Pick the channel in the Slack step after connecting your workspace. If a private channel doesn't appear, check that the account you connected can post to it.
