What this workflow does
New hires often start before most of the team knows their name. HR has the details in Rippling, but the rest of the company talks in Slack. This workflow posts a message to a Slack channel when Rippling tells FlowMattic about a new employee.
The Rippling trigger uses Setup Webhooks, which fires on the event you specify in Rippling. As imported, the template doesn't name that event for you, so pick the one for a new employee during setup. The employee data Rippling sends is then passed to Slack, where Send Channel Message posts to the channel you choose. You write the text and map in details such as the person's name.
Think about what you share. Rippling holds HR data, and a channel message is visible to everyone in that channel, so map only the details you are happy for the team to see. Task History shows each run and what was posted.
Company-wide welcome post
Each new hire added in Rippling gets a short welcome in your general Slack channel, so colleagues can say hello before their first day.
Heads-up for IT and facilities
Post to a private ops channel so the people who set up laptops, accounts and desks see each new employee as soon as HR adds them.
Team lead notice
A department channel gets a message when someone is added, giving the team lead and teammates time to plan the person's first week.
How this workflow runs
What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.
Rippling Setup WebhooksReceives events from Rippling through a webhook. Choose the Rippling event for a new employee when you set it up, then add a test employee so FlowMattic captures the data.
Slack Send Channel MessageSends a message to the Slack channel you pick, using the Send Channel Message action. Write the welcome text and map details from the Rippling event, such as the employee's name, into it.
What you need
- FlowMatticCore
- Rippling AccountAccount
- Slack AccountAccount
After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.
Make it yours
Changes worth making after you import it.
- Add a Filter after the trigger on a department or location value from the Rippling data, so each team's channel only hears about its own new hires.
- Use a Router with one route per department, each with its own Slack step, to post to a different channel depending on where the person works.
- Add a second Slack step that sends a direct message to the hiring manager, if the Rippling data includes who that is.
Questions about this workflow
Which Rippling event should I pick for new employees?
Choose the event Rippling offers for a newly added employee when you set up the trigger. Then add or update a test employee and check Task History to confirm the run fires and carries the data you want.
Will Slack show the new hire's salary or personal details?
Only if you map them into the message. The Slack step posts the text you write, so leave out anything private and use only fields like name or job title.
Can the Rippling welcome go to more than one Slack channel?
Yes. Add another Send Channel Message step after the first one and choose a different channel for it.
Do I need admin access in Rippling?
You need a Rippling account that can connect to FlowMattic and set up webhooks. Check the permissions with your Rippling admin if the connection is refused.
