When a Gripp task is completed, log it in Google Sheets and notify the team in Slack

When a task is marked complete in Gripp, this workflow adds it to a Google Sheets log and posts a message in a Slack channel, so your agency has a record of finished work and the team sees it straight away.

The When a Gripp task is completed, log it in Google Sheets and notify the team in Slack workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 3 steps across Gripp, Google Sheets, Slack
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Gripp tracks the tasks your agency works on. Two things often follow once one is done: someone records it for reporting or billing, and the rest of the team wants to know. Doing both by hand is easy to skip on a busy day. This workflow handles the two in order each time a task is completed.

The Gripp trigger fires when a task is completed. Its details become data you can map. First, a row is added in Google Sheets, with columns you fill from the task, such as its name and project. Then Slack posts a message to the channel you pick, using the same task details.

Both actions run for every completed task, with no condition between them. The Slack message is posted even if the Google Sheets step reports an error, and Task History shows which step had the problem.

A delivery log for client reporting

The sheet collects every finished Gripp task with its project, so an account manager can filter by client when writing the monthly update.

Team wins channel

A #done channel in Slack shows each completed task as it happens, so designers and developers can see progress across projects.

Checking work before invoicing

Finance reviews the Google Sheets log of completed tasks before sending invoices, without needing a Gripp login.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Gripp Task Completed

Runs when a task is completed in your Gripp account. The task's details are passed to both the Google Sheets and Slack steps.

  2. Step 2Action
    Google Sheets Add New Row

Records the completed Gripp task as a new line in your chosen spreadsheet. Connect Google, set your headings, and map task details such as name and project to columns.

  3. Step 3Action
    Slack Send Channel Message

Posts a message to a Slack channel you choose. Write the text and map in task details from Gripp, so the team sees what was completed.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Gripp AccountAccount
  • Google Sheets AccountAccount
  • Slack AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Add a Filter right after the trigger if only tasks from certain projects or clients should be logged and announced.
  • Map the completion date into its own sheet column so you can count finished tasks by week or month.
  • Want the sheet but not the Slack noise for small tasks? Use a Router with two routes: one that logs every task, and one that also posts to Slack for tasks matching your condition.

Questions about this workflow

Does every completed Gripp task go to both Google Sheets and Slack?

Yes, as imported. There is no condition in the flow, so each completed task adds a row and posts a message.

What if a Gripp task is reopened and completed again?

If Gripp sends a new Task Completed event, the workflow runs again and you get a second row and a second Slack message.

Can the Slack message go to a different channel per project?

Not as imported. Add a Router after the Google Sheets step, with a route and a Send Channel Message step for each project's channel.

Will tasks completed before I import this be logged?

No. Only tasks completed after the workflow is turned on create rows and messages.
