When a new task is added in Todoist, create text-to-speech (File) in Hume AI

Each time a task is created in Todoist, this workflow sends its text to Hume AI’s Text to Speech (File) action, so a spoken audio version of the task is produced.

The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Some people take in a to-do list better by ear than by reading it, and some tasks are written for someone who will listen rather than look. This workflow gives every new Todoist task a spoken version made by Hume AI, starting the moment the task is created.

The Todoist trigger fires on New Task, so each task added to your account starts one run and brings its details along. The Hume AI step runs Text to Speech (File), which converts text to speech. You map the task content, or a sentence built around it, into that step after import.

The template ends there. Hume AI returns the result of the conversion to the workflow, but no later step saves, sends or attaches it, so as imported the audio stays in the run's data. Open Task History after a test run to see what Hume AI returned, then add the step that fits how you want to use it, such as a task comment or an email to yourself.

Listening to new tasks away from the screen

You add tasks during the day and prefer to hear them while driving or walking. Each new task gets an audio version you can route to wherever you listen.

Accessible task lists

A team member with low vision gets a spoken version of each task added to a shared Todoist account, once you add a step that delivers the audio to them.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Todoist New Task

Starts a run whenever a new task is created in the connected Todoist account. The task's details become available to map into the Hume AI step.

  2. Step 2Action
Hume AI Text to Speech (File)

Turns the text you map in, such as the new task's content, into speech with Hume AI. Connect your Hume AI account after import. Nothing uses the result until you add a step after this one.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Todoist AccountAccount
  • Hume AI AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Run a test and look at the Hume AI output in Task History before adding a next step, so you know what form the audio comes back in.
  • If Hume AI gives you a link to the audio, add Todoist's Add a Task Comment action and map that link into a comment on the new task.
  • Put a Filter between the Todoist trigger and the Hume AI step so only tasks in one project, or with a certain word in the content, are turned into speech.
  • Map more than the task title into the Hume AI step, for example the due date, so the spoken version carries the details you need.

Questions about this workflow

Where does the Hume AI audio file end up?

As imported, it stays in the workflow run. No step saves or sends it. Check the Hume AI output in Task History, then add a step that stores or delivers it where you want.

Does every new Todoist task get converted?

Yes. Each task created in the connected account starts a run. To convert only some, put a Filter between the Todoist trigger and the Hume AI step.

What happens when a Todoist task is edited?

Nothing. The trigger is New Task, so edits to an existing task do not start a run or create new audio.

Do I need a Hume AI account for the Todoist text to speech step?

Yes. The Text to Speech (File) step runs through your Hume AI account, which you connect after import along with your Todoist account.
