Add a new Copecart buyer to a Mailchimp audience after payment
When Copecart reports a received payment, this workflow adds the buyer’s email address to your Mailchimp audience, or updates the member if they are already on it, ready for your customer emails.

What this workflow does
Selling through Copecart gives you buyers, but your follow-up emails probably go out from Mailchimp. Moving each buyer across by hand is slow, and anyone you forget misses your welcome sequence. This workflow adds every paying buyer to Mailchimp as the payment comes in.
The Copecart trigger listens for the Instant Payment Notification, which fires when a payment is received. FlowMattic takes the buyer details from that notification and passes them to Mailchimp. The Add New Member action adds the buyer to the audience you choose, or updates their member record if the email is already there.
Every received payment runs the workflow, so a repeat buyer triggers it again. That is harmless here, because Mailchimp updates the existing member rather than adding a duplicate. If you sell several products, you can use the payment data to tell buyers apart, as the tips below explain.
Welcome sequence for course buyers
Someone buys your online course through Copecart and joins your Mailchimp audience, where an automation you built in Mailchimp sends the onboarding emails.
Product update list for digital downloads
Buyers of an ebook or template pack are added to Mailchimp so you can email them when you release a new edition.
Separating buyers from free subscribers
Point the step at a buyers-only audience, so you can email paying customers without writing to everyone who downloaded a freebie.
How this workflow runs
What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.
Copecart Instant Payment NotificationRuns when Copecart sends an Instant Payment Notification for a received payment. The buyer and payment details in that notification become available to map.
Mailchimp Add New MemberAdds the buyer to the Mailchimp audience you choose, or updates them if that email address is already a member. Map the buyer's email and name from the Copecart data.
What you need
- FlowMatticCore
- Copecart AccountAccount
- Mailchimp AccountAccount
After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.
Make it yours
Changes worth making after you import it.
- Selling more than one product? Add a Filter after the trigger that checks the product in the payment data, and import a copy of the workflow per product and audience.
- Map the product name into a Mailchimp merge field or tag, if the step offers one, so you can segment buyers inside a single audience.
- Make a test purchase after import so FlowMattic captures the Copecart notification and you can see its fields before mapping.
Questions about this workflow
Does a refund in Copecart remove the buyer from Mailchimp?
No. The workflow only runs on received payments and only adds or updates members. Removing refunded buyers would need a separate workflow.
What happens when a Copecart customer buys a second time?
The payment triggers the workflow again, and Add New Member updates the existing Mailchimp member instead of creating a duplicate.
Do subscription renewals in Copecart trigger it too?
The trigger fires when a payment is received. Check a renewal in Task History to see whether Copecart sends it as a notification for your product.
