Add new SalesIQ chat visitors to a Mailchimp audience

When a visitor starts a new Zoho SalesIQ chat, this workflow adds them to a Mailchimp audience, or updates them if they are already there, so people who talk to you on your site end up on your email list.

The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Visitors who start a live chat are showing interest, but a chat transcript is not a mailing list. Copying chat contacts into Mailchimp by hand is slow and easy to forget. This workflow moves them across each time a conversation begins.

The Zoho SalesIQ Conversation Created trigger fires when a visitor starts a new conversation. FlowMattic passes the visitor and conversation data to Mailchimp with Add New Member. That action adds the person to the audience you pick, or updates their details if the address is already a member, so repeat chatters are not duplicated.

Mailchimp needs an email address to add anyone. A visitor who starts chatting without giving one has no address to send, and that run will show Mailchimp's error in Task History. Ask for an email in your SalesIQ chat setup if you want most conversations to reach the list. Also make sure chat visitors have agreed to hear from you before they join a marketing audience.

Pre-sales chat on a product site

Visitors who chat about pricing join a Mailchimp audience, so you can send them the product updates they asked about.

Support chat for existing customers

Customers who start a SalesIQ chat are kept current in your Mailchimp audience, and their details update if they have changed.

Event or webinar questions

People asking about an upcoming event in chat are added to the audience you use for event announcements.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Zoho SalesIQ Conversation Created

Fires when a visitor starts a new conversation in Zoho SalesIQ. The visitor's details from that chat are passed on for mapping.

  2. Step 2Action
    Mailchimp Add New Member

Adds the chat visitor to your chosen Mailchimp audience, or updates them if they already exist. Map the visitor's email address from SalesIQ, plus any name values you have.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Zoho SalesIQ AccountAccount
  • Mailchimp AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Add a Filter after the SalesIQ trigger that continues only when the visitor's email is not empty, so chats without an address skip the Mailchimp step instead of erroring.
  • Prefer to add people once their chat has closed? Switch the trigger to SalesIQ's Conversation Completed event and keep the Mailchimp step as it is.
  • Start a test chat with your own email after import so FlowMattic captures SalesIQ's fields, then map them in the Mailchimp step.

Questions about this workflow

What if the SalesIQ visitor is already in my Mailchimp audience?

Add New Member updates an existing member instead of adding a second copy, so the person stays on the list once with their latest details.

Will a SalesIQ chat without an email address reach Mailchimp?

No. Mailchimp cannot add a member without an email address, so that run errors at the Mailchimp step. A Filter on the email field keeps those runs clean.

Does every new SalesIQ conversation run the workflow?

Yes. A visitor who starts three chats runs it three times, but Mailchimp keeps them as one member because the action updates existing addresses.

It's very straightforward, has a lot integrations and they work well. It is one thing to 'integrate' new external software, but integrating it well, with lots of options is where FlowMattic shines.
