Create new WordPress user and Voxel Profile on FluentForm Submission

A Fluent Forms submission creates a new WordPress user account and then a Voxel profile post from the same answers, so people who register through your form get both without you setting them up by hand.

Fluent Forms WordPress Voxel

The Create new WordPress user and Voxel Profile on FluentForm Submission workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 3 steps across Fluent Forms, WordPress, Voxel
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Directory and community sites built with Voxel need two things for each new member: a WordPress account to log in with and a profile in Voxel's profile post type. If you collect sign-ups with Fluent Forms, creating both by hand for every person is slow. This workflow does it from the form entry.

When someone submits your Fluent Forms form, the answers are passed along. The next step runs New User in WordPress, creating an account from the fields you map, such as email, username and name. Then Voxel runs Create New Profile, which adds a post in the profile post type using form answers and the data the WordPress step returns.

WordPress won't create a second account for an email that is already registered. For that person the New User step returns the existing user's ID, and the Voxel step gets that ID, so test with an address that's already registered to see what Voxel does with it. Task History shows each step's result for every submission.

Business directory listings by owner sign-up

Owners apply through a Fluent Forms form. Each one gets a WordPress login and a Voxel profile they can manage.

Community member registration

A custom registration form with extra questions creates the member's account and fills their Voxel profile from those answers in one go.

Freelancer or vendor marketplace

Applicants submit their details and skills. Each submission sets up a WordPress user and a profile you can review on the Voxel side.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Fluent Forms New Form Submission

Starts the run each time your Fluent Forms sign-up form receives an entry. All answers, such as email, name and profile details, are passed on to create the user and the profile.

  2. Step 2Action
    WordPress New User

Registers a WordPress account for the person who filled in the form. Map the email and the other account details you collect. For an email that already has an account, the step returns that user's ID instead of creating another.

  3. Step 3Action
    Voxel Create New Profile

Creates a new post in Voxel's profile post type. Map form answers into the profile and use the data returned by the WordPress step to tie it to the new user, then test to confirm.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Fluent Forms PluginPlugin
  • Voxel AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Make the email field required in your Fluent Forms form so the WordPress step always has an address to create the account with.
  • Add a Filter between the Fluent Forms trigger and the WordPress step that continues only when the consent or terms checkbox is ticked, so accounts are created only for people who agreed.
  • Submit a test entry with a fresh address and check in WordPress and Voxel that the profile belongs to the new user before you share the form.

Questions about this workflow

What happens if the Fluent Forms email is already a WordPress user?

WordPress won't create a duplicate account. The New User step returns the ID of the existing user, and the Voxel step receives that ID. If existing members shouldn't get another profile, add WordPress Get User by Email after the trigger, then a Filter between Get User by Email and New User that continues only when no user is found.

How is the Voxel profile linked to the new WordPress user?

Through the data you map in the Create New Profile step, using what the WordPress step returns. Run a test submission and confirm in Voxel that the profile shows the right owner.

Does the new user get a password from the Fluent Forms entry?

Only if you collect one and map it in the New User step. Otherwise check the step's options after import to see how the account's password is handled.

Do Fluent Forms, Voxel and FlowMattic need to be on one site?

Yes. All three steps work inside the same WordPress install, so the form, the user account and the Voxel profile all live on that site.
