Mirror new Linear issues as tasks in ClickUp

Each new Linear issue is copied into ClickUp as a task, with the title, description and other values you map, so teams planning in ClickUp see engineering work as it is filed.

What this workflow does

Engineering often works in Linear while product, support or client teams plan in ClickUp. When an issue is filed, the other side only finds out if someone copies it across. This workflow makes that copy for each new issue.

The Linear New Issue trigger starts a run when an issue is created. FlowMattic sends the issue data to ClickUp, and Create Task adds a task to the list you choose. You map Linear values, such as the issue title and description, into the task.

ClickUp gets the issue only as it looked when it was filed. Later changes in Linear, like a new status, a reassignment or closing the issue, aren't carried over to the ClickUp task, and edits in ClickUp don't flow back. Treat the task as a pointer to the issue: mapping the issue's link into it lets people jump to Linear for the latest state. Task History lists each task the workflow created.

Client-facing project board

An agency's account managers plan in ClickUp. Each issue the developers file in Linear appears there, so they can tell clients what is being worked on.

Support tracking engineering fixes

A support team keeps a ClickUp list of open bugs. New Linear issues show up as tasks they can link to customer conversations.

Merging two teams' tools

After an acquisition, one team uses Linear and the other ClickUp. New issues reach the ClickUp side while both teams keep their own tool.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Linear New Issue

Starts a run each time an issue is created in Linear. The issue's title, description and other details are available to map into ClickUp.

  2. Step 2Action
    ClickUp Create Task

Creates a task in the ClickUp list you choose from the Linear issue data. Map the title, description and the issue's link, then connect your ClickUp account at import.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Linear AccountAccount
  • ClickUp AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • File a test issue in Linear after import so the trigger captures its fields, then map the issue URL into the task description.
  • Add a Filter after the trigger on the Linear team or label if only some issues belong in ClickUp, using the value a test run shows.
  • Use ClickUp's Add Tag to Task after Create Task to mark these tasks with a tag such as linear, so they are easy to filter in ClickUp.

Questions about this workflow

Does closing the Linear issue complete the ClickUp task?

No. The workflow only runs when an issue is created. Status changes in Linear aren't sent to ClickUp.

Do changes in ClickUp go back to Linear?

No. The template has no step that writes to Linear, so the issue stays exactly as filed.

Will older Linear issues be copied into ClickUp?

No. Only issues created after you switch the workflow on become tasks.

Can issues from different Linear teams go to different ClickUp lists?

Yes. Use a Router with one route per Linear team, each with its own Create Task step pointed at that team's list. Team names don't overlap, so each issue follows one route.

An excellent replacement to Zapier with unlimited tasks and full control over data. Customer service is fantastic! Have had hands-on support from owner who is ultra helpful and they have even been integrating new SAAS options continuously.

Brad

It's an exceptional product. Works great and extremely valuable. I saved thousands of dollard on Zapier, as Flowmattic makes me able to host the automation myself. And very deeply integrates with the products I need.
