Send a OneSignal SMS when a new Stripe payment succeeds

When a Stripe charge succeeds, this workflow sends a text message through OneSignal to the phone number you map, so a paying customer gets an SMS confirming their payment.

The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

A payment confirmation by email can sit unread for hours, while a short text is usually seen soon after it arrives. If you already use OneSignal for messaging, this workflow uses it to text customers each time Stripe takes a payment.

The Stripe trigger, New Charge, fires whenever a new charge is created and succeeds. FlowMattic passes the charge data to OneSignal, whose Send SMS action sends an SMS or MMS. You map the recipient from the Stripe data and write the message, for example the amount and a thank-you line.

The text can only go out if the charge carries a phone number, which depends on whether your checkout collects one. Run a test payment and check the captured Stripe data before you rely on it. Your OneSignal account must also be set up to send SMS. Task History shows OneSignal's response for every run.

Booking deposits for a service business

A salon takes deposits through Stripe, and each client gets a text confirming the deposit went through, with the salon's name in the message.

Event ticket payments

Buyers paying for tickets receive an SMS confirmation with the amount, so they have proof of payment on their phone.

Invoice payments from regular clients

A freelancer's clients pay invoices through Stripe and get a short text saying the payment was received.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Stripe New Charge

Starts a run for each successful new charge in your Stripe account. The charge data, including any customer details Stripe holds for it, is passed on for mapping.

  2. Step 2Action
    OneSignal Send SMS

Sends an SMS or MMS through OneSignal. Connect your OneSignal account, map the customer's phone number from the Stripe charge, and write the message text.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Stripe AccountAccount
  • OneSignal AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Add a Filter after the trigger that continues only when the charge has a phone number. Charges without one then end there instead of sending OneSignal a blank recipient.
  • Include the amount and your business name in the text so the customer knows which payment it refers to.
  • Only text customers who agreed to receive SMS from you. Add a consent checkbox to your checkout and filter on it if your Stripe data carries that value.

Questions about this workflow

Where does the phone number for the OneSignal SMS come from?

From the Stripe charge data, when your checkout collects one. If a charge has no phone number, there is nothing to send to. Check a test payment to see what Stripe passes along.

Do failed Stripe payments send a text?

No. The New Charge trigger fires only for charges that are created and succeed.

Does this replace Stripe's own receipt email?

No. The workflow sends a separate SMS and does not change any Stripe settings, so receipts Stripe sends continue as before.

Will refunds trigger a second text?

No. A refund is a different Stripe event, and this workflow only listens for successful new charges.

An excellent replacement to Zapier with unlimited tasks and full control over data. Customer service is fantastic! Have had hands-on support from owner who is ultra helpful and they have even been integrating new SAAS options continuously.

Brad

It's an exceptional product. Works great and extremely valuable. I saved thousands of dollard on Zapier, as Flowmattic makes me able to host the automation myself. And very deeply integrates with the products I need.
