Send a Telegram message to on-call staff for each Opsgenie alert

When Opsgenie sends an alert event to FlowMattic, this workflow posts a Telegram message to the chat your on-call staff use, so the alert reaches their phones in an app they already have open.

What this workflow does

Opsgenie already pages people, but many small teams also coordinate in Telegram. A copy of each alert in the team's on-call chat means everyone sees what fired, who might pick it up, and can talk about it in one place. This workflow sends that copy.

The Opsgenie trigger gives you a webhook URL to add to Opsgenie, and it fires for the events you specify there. FlowMattic receives the alert data with each event and passes it to Telegram, where Send a Text Message posts to the chat you set. You write the text and map in values from the alert, such as its message and priority, if Opsgenie includes them.

The workflow doesn't read your Opsgenie schedules, so it can't work out who is on call. It sends to one fixed chat, so make that your on-call group. If Opsgenie also sends events such as acknowledgements or closes, each one sends a message too, unless you add a Filter.

Small DevOps team on Telegram

A team that already talks in a Telegram group gets every new Opsgenie alert there, so whoever is free can say they are on it.

Backup channel for on-call engineers

On-call engineers get a Telegram message for each alert alongside the regular Opsgenie notification, giving them a second place to see what fired.

Agency watching client systems

An agency routes alerts from client monitoring through Opsgenie and posts them to a Telegram group the support staff watch out of hours.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Opsgenie Setup Webhooks

Gives you a webhook URL to add to Opsgenie and runs for the events you specify there. The alert data sent with each event is passed to Telegram.

  2. Step 2Action
    Telegram Send a Text Message

Sends a text message with markup support to the Telegram chat you set, such as your on-call group. Connect your bot and write the message using values from the Opsgenie alert.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Opsgenie AccountAccount
  • Telegram AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Trigger a test alert in Opsgenie after import so FlowMattic captures real alert data, then build the Telegram message from it.
  • If Opsgenie sends more than new alerts, add a Filter after the trigger that continues only when the event's action value shows a created alert. Check the test data for that value.
  • Add a second Telegram step for a manager's private chat when only high-priority alerts should reach them, with a Filter on the priority value.

Questions about this workflow

Does this Opsgenie workflow know who is on call?

No. It sends every message to the one Telegram chat you set. Use a group that your on-call staff are in, or change the chat when the rota changes.

Will I get Telegram messages when an Opsgenie alert is acknowledged or closed?

Only if Opsgenie sends those events to the webhook. If it does, each one starts a run. Add a Filter on the event's action to keep only new alerts.

What do I need to set up in Telegram?

A Telegram bot connected to FlowMattic and added to the chat it should post in. Then pick that chat in the Telegram step.

Does this replace Opsgenie's own notifications?

No. Opsgenie keeps paging people as before. The Telegram message is an extra copy for the team chat.

An excellent replacement to Zapier with unlimited tasks and full control over data. Customer service is fantastic! Have had hands-on support from owner who is ultra helpful and they have even been integrating new SAAS options continuously.

Brad

It's an exceptional product. Works great and extremely valuable. I saved thousands of dollard on Zapier, as Flowmattic makes me able to host the automation myself. And very deeply integrates with the products I need.
