Send messages through WhatsApp Notifications for new paid Shopify orders
When a Shopify order is paid, this workflow sends a WhatsApp text through the WhatsApp Cloud API to the number you map from the order. Free-form text only reaches people who messaged your business in the last 24 hours.

What this workflow does
A paid order is the point where many shops want to say thanks or confirm details. Doing that by hand on WhatsApp means copying numbers out of Shopify one order at a time. This workflow sends the message from your WhatsApp business number each time an order is paid.
The Shopify trigger fires when an order is paid, and FlowMattic receives that order's data. The WhatsApp Cloud API step then sends a text message. You map the recipient's phone number from the order and write the message with order values such as the order number or total.
Know one WhatsApp rule before you rely on this. Free-form WhatsApp text gets delivered only inside the 24 hours after a person last wrote to your business number. Most buyers have not messaged you, so as imported many of them won't receive the text. To reach every buyer, change the step to Send Template Message and use a template WhatsApp has approved. Task History shows the response from WhatsApp for each run.
Customers who ordered through a WhatsApp chat
A shop that takes questions on WhatsApp before people buy can send a text to those buyers when their order is paid, while the chat window is still open.
Order confirmations with an approved template
Switch the step to Send Template Message and every paid Shopify order gets a WhatsApp confirmation with the order number filled in.
Alert your own team about paid orders
Map a fixed staff number instead of the buyer's, and someone on your team gets a WhatsApp text with the order details each time a payment comes through.
How this workflow runs
What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.
Shopify Order PaymentRuns when a Shopify order is paid. The order's data, including customer and amount details Shopify sends, is passed on for mapping in the WhatsApp step.
WhatsApp Cloud API Send Text MessageSends a WhatsApp text message from your WhatsApp Cloud API number. Map the recipient's phone number from the order and write the text. Plain text lands only for buyers who wrote to your number within the past day.
What you need
- FlowMatticCore
- Shopify AccountAccount
- WhatsApp Cloud API AccountAccount
After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.
Make it yours
Changes worth making after you import it.
- Replace Send Text Message with Send Template Message from the WhatsApp Cloud API app, using a template WhatsApp has approved, so buyers who never messaged you still receive it.
- WhatsApp expects numbers in international format with the country code. Check a test order's phone value in Task History and adjust your mapping if the number is missing a code.
- Add a Filter after the trigger that continues only when the order has a phone number, so runs without one stop before the WhatsApp step.
Questions about this workflow
Will every Shopify buyer get the WhatsApp text?
No, not as imported. A plain text message is delivered only if the buyer wrote to your WhatsApp number in the previous 24 hours. Buyers who haven't messaged you won't get it. Use Send Template Message with an approved template to reach them.
Where does the buyer's phone number come from?
From the Shopify order data. You map the phone value into the WhatsApp step. If an order has no phone number, there is nothing to send to, and Task History shows the error from WhatsApp.
Does the workflow run for unpaid or pending Shopify orders?
No. The trigger is Order Payment, which fires when an order is paid. Orders still awaiting payment do not start a run.
What do I need on the WhatsApp side?
A WhatsApp Cloud API setup with a business phone number, connected to FlowMattic. Every text from this workflow goes out from that business number.
