Text the customer via Twilio SMS on every Prodigi order status change

Whenever a Prodigi print order changes status, FlowMattic sends the customer an SMS through Twilio, so buyers of your print-on-demand products hear about each stage without checking their email.

The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Print-on-demand orders pass through several stages at Prodigi before they reach the buyer, and customers often wonder where theirs is. A text at each change answers that question before they ask. This workflow sends one through Twilio every time Prodigi reports a new status.

The Prodigi Order Status trigger starts a run whenever the status of one of your Prodigi orders changes. The order details Prodigi sends with that event are passed to the SMS step.

The Twilio Send SMS step then texts a phone number from your Twilio account. It ships unmapped: after import you connect Twilio, map the customer's phone number from the Prodigi order data and write the message, mapping in the new status and the order reference so the customer knows which order it is.

Because the trigger fires on every status change, one order can send several texts over its life. Keep the message generic enough to fit any stage, or add a Filter for the stages you care about. Prodigi only has a phone number to pass on if one was given with the order, so place a test order and check Task History to see which fields arrive.

Art print shop updates

An illustrator selling framed prints through Prodigi texts buyers each time their order moves on, so they know it's being made and when it's on its way.

Photo gift seasons

A photo gift store sends SMS updates during busy holiday weeks, when customers are most anxious about whether their order will arrive in time.

Merch for creators

A podcaster selling posters via Prodigi keeps fans informed by text, without answering "where is my order" messages by hand.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Prodigi Order Status

Starts a run each time a Prodigi order's status changes. Whatever order data Prodigi includes with the event is passed to the Twilio step; a test run shows the fields.

  2. Step 2Action
    Twilio Send SMS

Texts the customer through your Twilio number. The step arrives with no mapping, so connect Twilio, map the phone number from the Prodigi order and write the SMS, including the status and order reference.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Prodigi AccountAccount
  • Twilio AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • To text only at certain stages, such as when an order ships, put a Filter between the Prodigi trigger and the Twilio step on the status field, as it appears in a test run.
  • Make sure your store collects phone numbers with the country code and passes them to Prodigi, since Twilio needs the full international number.
  • Add a Filter between the Prodigi trigger and the Twilio step that continues only when the phone field is not empty, so orders without a number don't try to send.
  • Keep the SMS short and include your shop name, so customers recognise who is texting them about their print order.

Questions about this workflow

Will customers get a Twilio text for every Prodigi status?

Yes, as imported. The trigger fires on every order status change, so each new status sends another SMS. Add a Filter on the status between the two steps if you want fewer messages.

Which Prodigi field gives Twilio the buyer's phone number?

From the order data Prodigi sends with the status event, if the order included a phone number. Run a test order and check Task History to find the field to map into Twilio.

Do I need a Twilio phone number to send these SMS?

Yes. Twilio sends from a number on your Twilio account, so you need an account with a number that can send SMS to your customers' countries.

Can I also email the status update to the Prodigi customer?

Yes. Add an Email step after the Twilio step and map the customer's email from the Prodigi order data, if it's included, with the same status text.
