Trigger a workflow from MCP Tool and get user's purchases from WooCommerce

Your AI assistant passes a customer’s email to this workflow’s MCP tool, FlowMattic fetches every WooCommerce order placed with that email, and the order details you pick go back as the answer.

The Trigger a workflow from MCP Tool and get user's purchases from WooCommerce workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 3 steps across FlowMattic MCP, WooCommerce
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

"Where is my order?" and "what did I buy last time?" are questions every online store hears. An AI assistant can answer them, but only if it can see the orders. This workflow lets an MCP-connected assistant ask your WooCommerce store for a customer's purchase history by email and get a structured reply.

The FlowMattic MCP trigger fires when the MCP tool tied to this workflow is executed. Set that tool up after saving the workflow: on the FlowMattic MCP Server page, add a tool, select Workflow as the execution method, pick this workflow and add an email input parameter for the assistant to fill.

The WooCommerce step gets all orders for an email address. It isn't mapped in the template, so map the tool's email parameter into it. The MCP Tool Response step closes the workflow by returning key and value pairs to the assistant. Nothing is in it as imported, and a response with no parameters comes back as an error from FlowMattic, so map the order values you want the assistant to see, such as order numbers, dates, statuses and totals.

Because the lookup is by email, anyone who knows a customer's address could ask about their orders through the assistant. Decide which details are safe to return before you connect a public-facing AI client.

Order status questions in a support chat

A customer asks the store's AI assistant about a recent purchase, and the assistant calls the tool with their email and reads back the order status.

Reorder help

A pet supply shop's assistant looks up what a regular customer bought before, so it can suggest the same food and the right bag size.

Internal lookups for staff

A store manager asks an AI client in the office how many orders a wholesale buyer placed this year, without opening the WooCommerce orders screen.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
FlowMattic MCP Workflow MCP Tool Triggered

Fires when the assistant executes this workflow's MCP tool. The tool's input parameters, such as the customer's email address, become available to the WooCommerce step.

  2. Step 2Action
    WooCommerce Get Orders by Email

Gets all WooCommerce orders placed with the email the assistant sent. The template leaves the email empty, so map the tool's parameter into it and run a test call to see the result.

  3. Step 3Action
    FlowMattic MCP MCP Tool Response

Returns the order details to the AI client as key and value pairs. Add the fields it should read, such as order number, date, status and total from the WooCommerce step.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • WooCommerce PluginPlugin

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Confirm who is asking before the assistant calls this tool, for example by only using it with logged-in customers, so order details aren't shared with strangers who know an email.
  • Return only the fields the assistant needs to answer. Leaving out addresses and phone numbers keeps personal data out of the AI conversation.
  • Test with an email that has several orders and check how the WooCommerce step lists them, so you know which values to map into the response.

Questions about this workflow

Does the WooCommerce lookup include guest orders?

FlowMattic describes the step as getting all orders by email. Call the tool with a guest buyer's address and check Task History to confirm whether those orders come back in your store.

What do I put in the MCP Tool Response step?

Key and value pairs for the assistant, mapped from the WooCommerce step, such as order IDs, statuses and totals. It ships empty, and FlowMattic returns an error when no response parameters are set.

Can the AI assistant cancel or edit WooCommerce orders through this tool?

No. The workflow only reads orders and returns their details. Changing orders would need a separate tool and workflow with a WooCommerce update action.

What if a customer has never ordered with that email?

The WooCommerce step finds no orders to return. Call the tool with an unused address and check Task History to see what the assistant receives in that case.
