When a contact unsubscribes in MailerLite, update the affiliate status to inactive in FluentAffiliate

When someone unsubscribes from your MailerLite emails, FlowMattic uses their email address to set the matching FluentAffiliate affiliate to inactive, so partners who leave your list stop being treated as active affiliates.

2 steps Setup ~5 min Used on 1.4k sites Free to import

The When a contact unsubscribes in MailerLite, update the affiliate status to inactive in FluentAffiliate workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 2 steps across MailerLite, FluentAffiliate
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Many affiliate programs send partners their links, promotions and payout news by email. If an affiliate unsubscribes from that list, they can no longer get those updates, and some programs prefer to pause the account rather than keep an affiliate who can't be reached. This workflow makes that change for you.

A run starts the moment a MailerLite subscriber's status turns to unsubscribed. The subscriber's details, including their email address, are passed on.

The FluentAffiliate step updates the status of an affiliate. It comes already set up: the affiliate email is mapped from the MailerLite subscriber's email, and the new status is inactive. You only connect FluentAffiliate after import.

Matching works by email, so it only reaches affiliates whose FluentAffiliate email is the same as the address on your MailerLite list. Most people who unsubscribe won't be affiliates at all; for them, FluentAffiliate has no affiliate to update, and Task History shows what the step returned. Test first with an affiliate account you control.

Pause partners who leave the affiliate newsletter

A course creator emails affiliates their monthly promo kit through MailerLite and sets anyone who unsubscribes to inactive in FluentAffiliate until they rejoin.

Keep the active affiliate list reachable

A WooCommerce store only wants active affiliates it can contact about commission changes, so unsubscribing takes an affiliate out of the active group.

Clean up after a list cleanup campaign

A membership site runs a re-engagement email, and partners who unsubscribe in response are marked inactive without a manual review.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    MailerLite Subscriber Unsubscribed

Fires when a MailerLite subscriber becomes unsubscribed. The subscriber's email address and other details are passed to FluentAffiliate.

  2. Step 2Action
    FluentAffiliate Update Affiliate Status

Sets the affiliate's status to inactive in FluentAffiliate. The affiliate email is mapped from the MailerLite subscriber's email and the status is preset, so you only connect FluentAffiliate after import.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • MailerLite AccountAccount
  • FluentAffiliate PluginPlugin

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Ask affiliates to sign up for your MailerLite list with the same email they use in FluentAffiliate, because the step finds the affiliate by that address.
  • To tell your affiliate manager, add a Slack or Email step after the FluentAffiliate step that names the email whose status was changed, so someone can follow up with the partner.
  • Change the preset status in the FluentAffiliate step to pending instead of inactive if you'd rather review each affiliate before deciding.

Questions about this workflow

What happens when a MailerLite subscriber isn't a FluentAffiliate affiliate?

FluentAffiliate has no affiliate with that email to update, so the status change doesn't apply to anyone. Task History shows what the step returned for that run.

Does a resubscribe in MailerLite make the affiliate active again?

No. This workflow only reacts to unsubscribes. To reactivate affiliates, set their status back in FluentAffiliate or build a second workflow for that.

Is the affiliate deleted or just paused?

Only the status changes, to inactive. The affiliate account stays in FluentAffiliate and you can set it back to active later.
