When a new form submission received in Jotform, create a new user account in WordPress

Each new Jotform submission creates a user account on your WordPress site from the answers you map, so people who apply or register through a Jotform form get a login without you adding them by hand.

Jotform WordPress

2 steps Setup ~5 min Used on 3.1k sites Free to import

The When a new form submission received in Jotform, create a new user account in WordPress workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 2 steps across Jotform, WordPress
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Jotform is a common choice for registration and application forms, but it lives outside WordPress. When those people also need an account on your site, for a members area, a course or a client portal, someone has to create each user in the WordPress admin. This workflow does it from the submission.

When a Jotform form receives a new submission, FlowMattic picks it up and makes each answer available to map. The second step runs WordPress New User, which creates a user account on the site where FlowMattic is installed. You map the Jotform answers into the user details the step asks for.

Every submission creates an account, so the form is effectively a sign-up page for your site. Think about who can reach it, and add a Filter if only some entries should become users. After import, send a test entry and open Users in your WordPress admin to check the new account before sharing the form.

Member applications collected in Jotform

A club takes applications through a Jotform form with its own questions and branding. Each applicant gets a WordPress account for the members area without an admin creating it.

Client intake for a portal

A consultant's intake form runs on Jotform. Every new client who submits it gets a user on the WordPress site that hosts the client portal.

Course registration from an existing form

Students already register through a Jotform form linked from emails. Each registration creates the WordPress user they need to reach course pages.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Jotform New Form Submission

Fires when a Jotform form receives a new submission. Connect your Jotform account and pick the form, and every answer in the submission becomes available to map into the WordPress step.

  2. Step 2Action
    WordPress New User

Creates a new user account on your WordPress site. Map the Jotform answers into the user details this step asks for, then send a test submission to see the account it creates.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Jotform AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Add a Filter between the Jotform trigger and the WordPress step that continues only when an approval or terms answer has the value you expect, so only qualifying entries become WordPress users.
  • Make the email question in your Jotform form required, so the WordPress step always has an address to give the new account.
  • Create a test account first and look at its role under Users in WordPress. If new users need a different role, check the New User step for a role option after import.

Questions about this workflow

What if the Jotform email already belongs to a WordPress user?

Jotform entrants who already have an account don't get a second one. The New User step finds the user with that email and returns their ID, which shows on the WordPress step in Task History. If you set a role in the step, that user gets it too. A username that a different account already uses may be refused.

Does the new WordPress user get a password or a welcome email?

That depends on what you map and how the step and your site are set up. Send one test submission with your own address and check what arrives and how the account can log in.

Do I need a WordPress plugin for Jotform?

No. Jotform runs on its own service. You connect your Jotform account in FlowMattic, and the WordPress step runs on the site where FlowMattic is installed.

Will past Jotform submissions create accounts?

No. The trigger reacts to new submissions only, so entries made before you turn the workflow on don't create users.

It's an exceptional product. Works great and extremely valuable. I saved thousands of dollard on Zapier, as Flowmattic makes me able to host the automation myself. And very deeply integrates with the products I need.
