When a new submission received in Contact Form 7, check if the email is valid with Email List Validation and create a user in WordPress

When someone submits your Contact Form 7 form, this workflow checks their email address with Email List Validation and then creates a WordPress user account from the submission, with the check result available to map.

What this workflow does

Some sites use a simple Contact Form 7 form as a sign-up form: a visitor fills it in and should end up with an account on your WordPress site. Creating those accounts by hand is slow, and a mistyped or fake address leaves you with users you can never reach. This workflow runs an email check and creates the account in one pass.

The Contact Form 7 trigger starts a run for every form a visitor sends. FlowMattic sends the submitted address to Email List Validation with its Verify Single Email action, and the response becomes data you can map. The last step is WordPress New User, which creates an account on your site from the fields you map from the form.

As imported, there is no Filter between the check and the account step. Every submission goes on to WordPress whatever the verification says, so an invalid address still gets an account. The tips explain how to stop that. Task History shows each run, including the verification response and WordPress's reply.

Member sign-up on a small community site

Visitors request access through a Contact Form 7 form. Each one gets a WordPress account, and the verification result helps you spot doubtful addresses.

Client portal registrations

A freelancer's site offers clients a short request form. The account is created for them, ready for the portal pages you protect by login.

Cutting fake accounts after you add a Filter

Once you add a Filter on the verification result, bots that submit made-up addresses stop turning into user accounts on your site.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
Contact Form 7 New Form Submission

Fires on each new Contact Form 7 submission. The submitted fields, including the email address, are handed to the next two steps.

  2. Step 2Action
Email List Validation Verify Single Email

Sends the form's email address to Email List Validation to verify it. Map the email field here and connect your Email List Validation account. The response can then be used by later steps.

  3. Step 3Action
    WordPress New User

Creates a new WordPress user on your site from the submission. Map the form's email and name fields into the user, then run a test and check the new account under Users in your dashboard.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Contact Form 7 PluginPlugin
  • Email List Validation AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Add a Filter between Email List Validation and the WordPress step that continues only when the result shows a valid address. Run a test first to see the exact value the service returns.
  • Make the email field required in the Contact Form 7 form tag (email*) so every run has an address to verify and to use for the account.
  • After a test run, look at the new user's role under Users and confirm it suits accounts that anyone can create from a public form.

Questions about this workflow

Will a Contact Form 7 entry that fails the email check still get a WordPress account?

Yes, as imported. The check runs, but nothing reads its result, so every submission reaches the New User step. Add a Filter on the verification result between the Email List Validation step and the WordPress step to make it a gate.

What if the submitted address is already used by a WordPress user on my site?

No new user is added for that address. The New User step reports the ID of the user who already has it, which you'll see in Task History. If a role is set in the step, it gets added to that person's account.

Which account pays for the Email List Validation checks?

Your own. Verification runs through the Email List Validation account you connect on import, so check your plan there for how many checks it covers.

Will my Contact Form 7 notification emails keep arriving?

Yes. The workflow listens for submissions and doesn't change your form's mail settings.
