Notify Slack when a new item is added to your Notion database
When an item is added to a Notion database, FlowMattic posts a Slack channel message with the item’s title in bold and its status in brackets, so your team sees new work without opening Notion.

What this workflow does
A Notion database works well as a task board, content calendar or request log, but nobody gets told when something new lands in it. People either check it constantly or miss items for days. This workflow puts a short note in Slack each time a database gains an item.
The Notion trigger watches the database you connect and starts a run for each new item. FlowMattic then posts in Slack, in the channel you choose. The template message is "New Notion item:" followed by the item's title in bold and its status in brackets, taken from the item's title and status values.
Your database may not have a property called Status, or it may use a different name for the title. After import, look at the data a test item sends and point the message at the right properties. You can add more of them too, such as an owner or a due date, if your database has them. The workflow only reads from Notion; it never changes the item.
A content calendar in Notion
Writers add article ideas to the editorial database, and the content channel in Slack sees each new title with its stage, such as Idea or Draft.
Bug reports logged in Notion
Support staff file bugs into a Notion database, and the engineering channel gets the title and status of each one as it is added.
Client requests tracked in a shared database
Account managers log requests in Notion, and the delivery team hears about each one in Slack without having to refresh the board.
How this workflow runs
What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.
Notion New Database ItemStarts a run when a new item is added to the Notion database you connect. The item's properties, such as its title and status, become values for the Slack message.
Slack Send Channel MessagePosts a message to your chosen Slack channel. The template text is "New Notion item:" with the item title in bold and its status in brackets. Edit it to include other properties.
What you need
- FlowMatticCore
- Notion AccountAccount
- Slack AccountAccount
After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.
Make it yours
Changes worth making after you import it.
- Add a Filter after the trigger if only some items matter to the channel, for example items whose status is Urgent or whose type is Bug.
- Use a Router to send different kinds of items to different Slack channels, giving each route a condition on a property with distinct values, such as team name.
- Add a link back to the item in the Slack text if the trigger data includes the page URL, so readers can open it in one click. A test run shows what is available.
Questions about this workflow
Does a change to an existing Notion item post to Slack?
No. The trigger is New Database Item, so only items added after the workflow is on start a run. Edits to items already in the database are not sent.
My Notion database has no Status property. What shows in the Slack message?
The brackets in the message would have nothing to fill them. Remove the status part of the text, or map a property your database does have.
Can I watch more than one Notion database?
This template watches the one database you connect. For a second database, import the template again and connect the other database in that copy.
Does the Slack message include the body of the Notion page?
No. As imported it carries only the item's title and status. Map other properties into the message text if your team needs more detail in the channel.
