AI agent that writes and sends tailored cart-recovery messages

When a WooCommerce cart is abandoned, an AI agent writes a friendly recovery email for that shopper, can send it with FlowMattic’s Email module, and can add the shopper to FluentCRM for follow-up.

The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

A recovery email that reads like a person wrote it is easier to send when a person doesn't have to write each one. This workflow gives that job to an AI agent: every abandoned cart gets its own email, worded for that shopper, and the shopper lands in FluentCRM so your team can follow up.

The WooCommerce New Cart Abandonment trigger fires when a customer leaves their cart without completing checkout. The AI agent receives the shopper's email and the cart total, and is told to write and send a friendly, specific recovery email and add the shopper to the CRM. Its prompt also tells it not to invent discounts or products.

The agent has two tools. Email Send Email goes to the shopper's address, with the subject and body written by the agent; it uses WordPress mail or your SMTP account. FluentCRM Create or Update Contact adds the shopper's email as a contact, or updates the one already there.

As imported, the agent only knows the email address and cart total, not the products, so the email can't name what was left behind. Map the cart items into the agent's input if you want that. The agent decides when to use each tool, so read a few sent emails in Task History before you rely on it.

Personal reminder for a small store

A ceramics shop wants abandoned-cart emails that don't read like a template, so each shopper gets a short note written for their cart.

Shoppers in the CRM for later campaigns

A skincare brand adds every shopper who abandons a cart to FluentCRM, where a later campaign can reach them even if this email is ignored.

Higher-value carts noticed

A furniture store's agent mentions the cart total in each email, so a shopper who left a large order sees the amount they were about to spend.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    WooCommerce New Cart Abandonment

Fires when a WooCommerce customer abandons their cart without completing checkout. The shopper's email and the cart total are passed to the agent.

  2. Step 2Action
    AI Agent Execute Agent

An AI agent on OpenAI GPT-4o is told to write and send a friendly, specific recovery email and to add the shopper to the CRM, without inventing discounts or products.

  3. Step 3Tool
    Email Send Email

Agent tool. Sends an email to the shopper's address with a subject and body the agent writes, through WordPress mail or the SMTP account you connect.

  4. Step 4Tool
    FluentCRM Create or Update Contact

Agent tool. Creates a FluentCRM contact from the shopper's email, or updates the existing contact with that address, so you can follow up from FluentCRM.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • WooCommerce PluginPlugin
  • AI ProviderAccount
  • FluentCRM PluginPlugin

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Add a Delay between the WooCommerce trigger and the AI agent, such as an hour, so shoppers who come back on their own don't get an email straight away.
  • Map the cart items or product names into the agent's input, so its email can mention what the shopper left behind.
  • Tell the agent in its system prompt your store name, sign-off and the link to the cart or shop, so every email carries them.
  • Give the agent FluentCRM's Add Tags to Contact as a third tool and ask it in the prompt to tag shoppers after adding them, so you can send a second reminder from FluentCRM.

Questions about this workflow

Does the AI agent know which products were in the WooCommerce cart?

Not as imported. Its input has the shopper's email and cart total only. Add the cart items to the user input if you want the email to name them.

Will the agent offer a discount code?

No. Its instructions say not to invent discounts or products. If you want a code in the email, create one in WooCommerce and add it to the system prompt.

Is an email sent for every abandoned cart?

Each abandoned cart starts a run and the agent is told to send one, but it chooses when to call its tools. Task History shows whether the email and FluentCRM tools ran.

What if the shopper is already a FluentCRM contact?

Create or Update Contact matches on email address, so the existing contact is updated rather than duplicated.
