Onboard new MemberPress members with a welcome and tips email

When someone completes a MemberPress signup, they get a welcome email right away naming their membership, then a second email three days later with tips for using it.

MemberPress Email Delay

4 steps Setup ~8 min Used on 892 sites Marketing Free to import

The Onboard new MemberPress members with a welcome and tips email workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 4 steps across MemberPress, Email, Delay
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Someone who just paid to join wants to know where to begin. A welcome on day one and a short follow-up give them a starting point. This workflow sends both from FlowMattic, so you don't have to remember who joined when.

Each run begins the moment a person finishes joining through MemberPress. The first Email SMTP step sends a welcome to the member's email address. Its subject uses their first name, and the body names the membership they joined.

Next, a Delay holds the run for three days. Then the second email goes to the same address with the subject "Getting the most from your membership". The template's body for that email is a single line that promises three features but doesn't list them, so write your own tips before you turn the workflow on.

Every new signup starts its own run, so each member gets the pair of emails on their own timeline. Task History shows each run, including ones still waiting on the Delay.

Online course membership

A student joins your course membership and gets a welcome naming the plan. Three days later a second email points them to the first lesson and the community forum.

Paid newsletter or content archive

Members of a premium archive get a welcome on signup, then a follow-up explaining how to search back issues and save articles they like.

Software or plugin club

New club members receive a welcome, then tips on where to download files, find their licence details and ask for help.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    MemberPress Member Signup Completed

Fires when a member completes signup in MemberPress. The member's email, first name and the membership they joined are passed on for the emails.

  2. Step 2Action
    Email Send Email

Sends the welcome email to the new member. The subject includes their first name and the body names their membership. Replace the short body with your real welcome and a link to where they should start.

  3. Step 3Logic
    Delay Delay For

Pauses this member's run for three days before the next step. Change the number or unit if you want the follow-up sooner or later.

  4. Step 4Action
    Email Send Email

Sends the follow-up email to the same member. The template body only says there are three features members love, so replace it with the actual tips before going live.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • MemberPress PluginPlugin

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Running more than one membership? Add a Router after the trigger with one route per membership name, so each plan gets welcome and tips emails written for it.
  • Want a longer series? Copy the Delay and email pair and add it at the end, for example a third email a week after signup.
  • Sign up as a test member after import and check Task History. The first email should show as sent and the run should be waiting on the Delay.

Questions about this workflow

Do I need to edit the MemberPress emails before using this?

Yes. Both bodies are placeholders. The welcome is one line, and the tips email mentions three features without naming any. Write your own text in each Send Email step.

Will members who joined before I import this get the emails?

No. Only signups completed after the workflow is turned on start a run.

What if the member cancels during the three-day wait?

The tips email still goes out. Nothing in the workflow checks membership status after the Delay, so write the second email so it reads fine for anyone who signed up.

Does this replace the emails MemberPress sends itself?

No. It sends its own emails through your SMTP connection and leaves MemberPress settings alone. Review MemberPress's own welcome email so members don't get two similar messages.

An excellent replacement to Zapier with unlimited tasks and full control over data. Customer service is fantastic! Have had hands-on support from owner who is ultra helpful and they have even been integrating new SAAS options continuously.

Brad

It's an exceptional product. Works great and extremely valuable. I saved thousands of dollard on Zapier, as Flowmattic makes me able to host the automation myself. And very deeply integrates with the products I need.
