Create a ClickUp task to investigate every new Opsgenie alert

When Opsgenie raises an alert, FlowMattic opens a ClickUp task for it, so someone on your team has a tracked item to own the follow-up investigation after the page goes out.

The Create a ClickUp task to investigate every new Opsgenie alert workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 2 steps across Opsgenie, ClickUp
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Opsgenie is good at reaching the person on call. What happens after the alert is quieter: root cause, a fix, a note for the next shift. If that work lives only in chat, it is easy to lose. This workflow turns each new Opsgenie alert into a ClickUp task, so the investigation sits in the same place as the rest of your team's work.

In FlowMattic, the Opsgenie Setup Webhooks trigger runs for whichever Opsgenie events you select. To get one task per new alert, choose only the event for an alert being created. Opsgenie then sends the alert data to FlowMattic, where its values become available for mapping.

The ClickUp step creates a task in the list you pick. You build the task name and description from the alert, for example the alert message as the title and its details in the body. If you also subscribe to other events, such as acknowledging or closing, each of them creates a task of its own. Task History records every run, along with what Opsgenie sent and how ClickUp answered.

Post-incident follow-up for an on-call rota

The engineer who handled a night alert finds a ClickUp task waiting in the morning and records the cause and fix there.

Investigation backlog for a small SRE team

Every Opsgenie alert lands in one ClickUp list, which the team reviews each week to spot noisy services and plan fixes.

Client-facing incident tracking for an agency

An agency running sites for clients gets a ClickUp task per alert, so account managers can see what broke without access to Opsgenie.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Opsgenie Setup Webhooks

Fires for the Opsgenie events you choose. Select only the alert-created event if you want a single task per alert. The alert's data is passed on for mapping in ClickUp.

  2. Step 2Action
    ClickUp Create Task

Creates a task in the ClickUp list you choose. Connect your ClickUp account, then map the Opsgenie alert message and details into the task's name and description.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Opsgenie AccountAccount
  • ClickUp AccountAccount

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Add a Filter after the trigger so only alerts of a certain priority create a task. Run a test alert first to see the exact priority value Opsgenie sends.
  • Put the alert ID from Opsgenie in the ClickUp task name or description. It makes the task easy to match back to the alert later.
  • Add a Slack Send Channel Message step after ClickUp to post the new task to your incident channel in the same run.

Questions about this workflow

Will closing an Opsgenie alert create a second ClickUp task?

Only if you subscribe the trigger to the close event. Each event Opsgenie sends starts its own run, and every run creates a task. Pick only alert creation to avoid this.

Does the ClickUp task close when the Opsgenie alert is resolved?

No. Nothing in this template edits a task once it exists. Closing them stays a manual step in ClickUp, which suits an investigation that continues after the alert is gone.

Are past Opsgenie alerts turned into ClickUp tasks?

No. Only events Opsgenie sends once the workflow is active start a run, so older alerts are not copied.

Can I assign the ClickUp task to whoever was on call?

Check the ClickUp step after import. If it offers an assignee, you can map a value from the alert or set a fixed person. A test run shows what Opsgenie sends.

It's an exceptional product. Works great and extremely valuable. I saved thousands of dollard on Zapier, as Flowmattic makes me able to host the automation myself. And very deeply integrates with the products I need.

Ease of use and terrific support from the founder. Tons of integrations and regular updates. The Flowmattic custom app is great especially if you want to integrate apps that aren't available yet inside Flowmattic.
