When a member updates their profile, update their contact information in FluentCRM

When a Memberful member edits their profile, this workflow sends the updated details to FluentCRM, which creates the contact or updates the one that already has that email address.

2 steps Setup ~5 min Used on 2.3k sites Free to import

The When a member updates their profile, update their contact information in FluentCRM workflow on the FlowMattic canvas, with 2 steps across Memberful, FluentCRM
The workflow as it appears in the builder after import. Each step opens for editing.

What this workflow does

Members change their name, email or other profile details in Memberful, and your FluentCRM records fall behind unless someone copies the change across. Emails then go out with an old name, or your segments rely on stale data. This workflow passes each profile change to your CRM when it happens.

The Memberful trigger fires whenever a member's profile information is updated. FlowMattic receives the member data from that event and hands it to FluentCRM. The Create or Update Contact action looks for a contact with the mapped email address. If it finds one, it updates that contact; if not, it creates a new one.

There are only two steps, so the whole job is mapping. You decide which Memberful values go into which FluentCRM contact fields. Run a test profile edit after import to see exactly what the Memberful event sends, then map from that data. Each run appears in Task History.

Members who change their email address

A member updates their address in Memberful. The new address reaches FluentCRM, so your next campaign goes to the inbox they actually use.

Personalised newsletters for a paid community

Your FluentCRM emails greet members by name. When a member corrects their name in Memberful, the contact record picks up the correction.

Podcast or publication with Memberful subscriptions

You run member-only content through Memberful and send announcements from FluentCRM on WordPress. Profile edits keep both tools describing the same person.

How this workflow runs

What happens at each step once the workflow is on, and what you need before you import it.

  1. Step 1Trigger
    Memberful Member Updated

Fires when a member's profile information is updated in Memberful. The member data from that event becomes available to map into FluentCRM.

  2. Step 2Action
    FluentCRM Create or Update Contact

Creates a contact in FluentCRM, or updates the existing contact that has the same email address. Map the Memberful email to the contact email, then add the other profile values you want to keep current.

What you need

  • FlowMatticCore
  • Memberful AccountAccount
  • FluentCRM PluginPlugin

After importing, map your own data. To keep the template universal, not every step is pre-filled. Open each step in the builder and connect your accounts and fields (channels, lists, sheets, recipients) before you switch the workflow on.

Make it yours

Changes worth making after you import it.

  • Add a Filter between the two steps that continues only when the Memberful email value is not empty, so an update without an address never reaches FluentCRM.
  • Want a history of profile changes? Add a Google Sheets step after FluentCRM that writes the member's email and the run date to a new row each time the trigger fires.
  • Make a test edit on your own Memberful profile after import, then open Task History to see which member fields the trigger delivered before you finish mapping.

Questions about this workflow

What happens if the Memberful member isn't in FluentCRM yet?

FluentCRM creates them. The action matches on email address, so a member with no matching contact is added as a new contact on the first profile update.

If a member changes their email in Memberful, does FluentCRM update the old contact?

The action matches on the email address you map. A new address won't match the old contact, so FluentCRM is likely to create a second contact. Test this case with your own profile before relying on it.

Does this copy existing Memberful members into FluentCRM?

No. It only reacts to profile updates made after the workflow is turned on. Members who never edit their profile won't reach FluentCRM through this workflow.

Where does FluentCRM have to be installed for this Memberful sync?

On the WordPress site that runs FlowMattic. FluentCRM is a WordPress plugin, while Memberful is connected as an outside app with your account.

It is self hosted and wordpress based. So you can effectively run this on any shared hosting with unlimited tasks. And new integrations are constantly being added. It's crazy how valuable this tool is.

The software works really well, and the team is adding integrations constantly, so I'm positive it eventually will catch up with Zapier. The flows are very easy to create and if you have any doubt, the team will give you great support.
