Connect AI Agents and Notion

Give the Notion databases your team already uses an assistant that reads each new item and does the first pass of work: sets a category and priority, writes a summary as a comment, drafts a brief or spots a duplicate. AI Agents run inside FlowMattic workflows on your WordPress site, with Notion triggers deciding when they start.

When this happens in Notion2 triggers

Do this in AI Agents1 action

1. TriggerNew Database Item
2. ActionExecute Agent

When Notion fires New Database Item, FlowMattic runs Execute Agent in AI Agents with the data from that event.

You build this in the FlowMattic workflow builder on your own site. See the setup steps

AI Agents and Notion workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Sort each new request by type and priority

When a request lands in your intake database, the agent reads it and fills in the category and priority properties, so the team's views are sorted before anyone opens the item.

Comment a short summary on long meeting notes

New meeting notes get a comment with three decisions and the action items, so people who missed the meeting read the comment, not the whole page.

Write a content brief when an idea is approved

Moving an idea to approved runs the agent, which writes an outline, audience and key points and saves them as a page under the idea for the writer.

Flag new items that repeat an existing one

Find Database Item searches for similar titles, the agent decides whether the new item is a duplicate, and the item is marked so the team can merge them.

File incoming webhook data as clean Notion items

Any app that can send a webhook can feed Notion. The agent turns the raw payload into a title, summary and tags before Create Database Item saves it.

Draft replies to customer feedback for review

The agent suggests a reply to each feedback item, a teammate approves or rejects it through Human in the Loop, and only approved text is added to the page as a comment.

Set up: sort new requests

At the end, every new item in your request database gets its category and priority set by an AI agent.

  1. Add the properties

In your Notion database, add select properties for category and priority, with the options you want the agent to choose from.

  2. Connect Notion

In FlowMattic, open Connects and add a Notion connection that can reach the database.

  3. Trigger on New Database Item

Create a workflow with Notion and New Database Item, choose the database and add a test item to capture its properties.

  4. Configure the agent

Add AI Agents with Execute Agent, give it the item text and a goal that names the allowed categories and priorities, and test it.

  5. Write the result back

Add Notion Update Database Item, map the agent's answers to the two properties, test it and switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • AI Agents has no trigger, so these workflows start from a Notion trigger, a Schedule or a Webhook.
  • Updated Database Item runs on any change, including the update your own workflow makes. Filter on a status property so the agent does not run again on its own edit.
  • Give the agent a fixed list of options for select properties. A value that does not match your options will not sort the way you expect.
  • Agents can be wrong. Put a Human in the Loop step before anything that matters, such as a reply that leaves your team.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

AI Agents and Notion connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

The agent works on your server

Workflows run on your own WordPress site, so Notion content goes to the AI provider you configure and back without an extra automation service.

No per-run charge from FlowMattic

Runs are unlimited on every plan. What you pay for the AI model is between you and your provider.

Notion stays the source of truth

The agent writes into the properties, pages and comments your team already uses, so nobody learns a new tool.

Common questions

What does an AI agent do in a Notion workflow?

The Execute Agent step reads the data you pass it, such as an item's title and description, works towards the goal you set, and returns an answer. Later Notion steps write that answer to properties, pages or comments.

Which Notion events can start the agent?

New Database Item and Updated Database Item. You can also start from a Schedule, for example a weekly run, or from a Webhook sent by another app.

Will the agent change my Notion pages without asking?

Only where you add a Notion action after it. To review its work first, add a Human in the Loop step, or have it write a comment rather than change properties.

Can the agent look things up in Notion before deciding?

Yes. Steps such as Find Database Item and Get Database Details can run before Execute Agent, and their results are passed to the agent as part of its input.

Which AI model does it use?

The one you choose when you set up the agent. AI Agents supports several providers, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini and Mistral, so you can use an account you already have.
