Connect Notion and Discord

Communities and product teams often plan in Notion and talk to people on Discord. FlowMattic connects them so new Notion items are announced in a channel, forum posts and new members are recorded in Notion databases, and a request thread hears back when its Notion status changes. The workflows run on your own WordPress site.

When Notion fires New Database Item, FlowMattic runs Send Channel Message in Discord with the data from that event.

Notion and Discord workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Announce each new Notion database item in a Discord channel

Changelog entries, events or published articles added to a Notion database are posted to a channel, so members hear about them without the team writing the same update twice.

File feature requests from a Discord forum into Notion

Every new post in your feedback forum becomes an item in a Notion requests database with the title, author and link, so the product team triages from one list.

Reply in the forum thread when a request ships

When a request's status in Notion changes to shipped, a Filter lets it through and a message goes into the original forum post, so the person who asked hears about it.

Keep a Notion roster of people who join the server

Each new member gets an item with their username and join date, which gives moderators a place to note roles, warnings or onboarding steps.

Open a discussion thread for every planned event

When an event is added to your Notion events database, a new forum post is created for it in Discord, so questions and RSVPs collect in one thread per event.

Post this week's schedule from Notion every Monday

A weekly Schedule searches the database for items marked this week, loops over them and posts each one to the announcements channel, so the server sees what is coming.

Set up: announce new Notion items

At the end, each item added to your chosen Notion database is posted as a message in a Discord channel.

  1. Connect Notion

In FlowMattic, add a Notion connection under Connects with the workspace that holds the database.

  2. Connect Discord

Add a Discord connection for your server so FlowMattic can post in its channels.

  3. Choose New Database Item

Start a workflow with Notion's New Database Item, pick the database and add a test item so FlowMattic captures its properties.

  4. Send the message

Add Discord's Send Channel Message, pick the channel, write the message from the item's properties, test it and switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • To reply in a forum thread later, save the Discord forum post's ID in a Notion property when you create the item, so the update workflow knows where to post.
  • Properties depend on how your Notion database is built, so the mapping above is an example.
  • Updated Database Item runs on any change to an item. Add a Filter on the property you care about so small edits do not post to Discord.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

Notion and Discord connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

Plans and chat stay in step

Notion stays the record and Discord gets the news, without anyone copying text between the two.

Large servers, same cost

Runs are unlimited, so a busy server that files hundreds of forum posts a week needs no larger plan.

Runs from your own site

Messages and member names move through your WordPress server, not through an outside automation service.

Common questions

Can Discord messages be saved to Notion?

Yes. Start with New Message Posted to Channel for a specific channel and add Create Database Item. Map the author, text and time to properties. Use a dedicated channel so only the messages you want are saved.

Can I give a role when someone's Notion item changes?

Yes. Start from Updated Database Item, find the member with Find User, then use Add Role. A Filter on a status property keeps it to the change you mean.

Can I post to different channels for different databases?

Yes. Build one workflow per database, or use a Router on a property such as type or team and give each path its own Send Channel Message.

Can mentions of a role create a Notion task?

Yes. New Mention in Text and Announcements fires when a user or role is mentioned. Add Create Database Item after it, for example to turn mentions of a support role into tasks.
