Connect Notion and Slack

Notion databases track projects, content and requests, but people reply faster in Slack. FlowMattic posts new and changed Notion items to the right channel or person, and can write Slack details back into the item. Product teams, editors and agencies get the database in front of them without anyone pasting links.

When Notion fires New Database Item, FlowMattic runs Send Channel Message in Slack with the data from that event.

Notion and Slack workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Post new Notion database items to Slack

Each new request, idea or bug in the database appears in the team channel with its title and key properties, so it gets picked up.

Message the owner when an item's status changes

A Filter keeps only changes to the Status property, then the owner's Slack account is found by email and they get a direct message.

Save website requests to Notion and tell the team

A request from your site or another tool arrives by webhook, becomes a Notion database item and is announced in Slack with a link to the item.

Open a Slack channel for each new project

Adding a project to the database creates a channel named after it, and the channel name is written back into a Notion property.

Remind the owner the day before a launch date

Format the item's date property, then add a Slack reminder for the owner the day before, so launches and deadlines in Notion are not forgotten.

Share an AI summary when a doc is marked final

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • Updated Database Item runs on any edit to an item, so add a Filter on the property you care about to keep the channel quiet.
  • Slack has no triggers in FlowMattic, so a Slack message cannot create a Notion item by itself. Use a Webhook or a form trigger with Create Database Item.
  • Property names come from your own database, so the mapping above is only an example.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

Notion and Slack connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

Notes and plans stay on your route

Notion content moves to Slack through your WordPress server, not through another company's automation account.

Busy databases cost the same

Runs are unlimited, so a content database with constant edits does not raise your bill.

Slack details go back to Notion

Channel names and summaries can be written into the item or as a page comment, so the record stays complete.

Common questions

Can I post only some Notion items to Slack?

Yes. Add a Filter after the trigger that checks a property, for example Type is Bug or Priority is High.

Can changes to existing items post to Slack?

Yes. Updated Database Item starts a workflow when an item is edited. Filter on the property that changed so only meaningful edits are posted.

Can Slack messages be saved in Notion?

Slack has no triggers in FlowMattic, so not directly. You can catch requests with the Webhook trigger and use Create Database Item or Create Page, then confirm in Slack.

Can I post to a different channel per database?

Yes. Build one workflow per database, or route items from one database to several channels with a Router on a property such as Team.

Can the workflow comment on the Notion page?

Yes. Create Comment on page adds a text comment, which is useful for leaving a note of what was posted and where.
