Connect WordPress and Slack

Site owners, editors and admins rarely sit in wp-admin all day. FlowMattic sends what happens on your WordPress site to Slack: comments that need moderating, posts that just went live, new sign-ups and role changes that deserve a second look. It runs inside the same site it reports on, so there is nothing else to host.

WordPress and Slack workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Send new comments to Slack for moderation

Moderators see the comment, the author and the post it belongs to in a channel, and can approve or reply from wp-admin before a thread goes cold.

Announce new posts to the team channel

Writers, social managers and sales all hear about a new article together, with the title and link, so promotion can start the same day.

Post new sign-ups to a channel by user role

Membership and course sites often care which role a new user got. A Router sends customers to one channel and new authors or vendors to another.

Warn admins privately when a user's role changes

A change to administrator or editor is worth knowing about. The site admins get a private channel message with the user and the new role.

Tell the post author when a comment is approved

Look up the post and its author, find the author's Slack account by email and send a direct message, so writers know readers are responding.

Share a weekly list of recent posts

Every Monday the workflow fetches posts of a chosen type and posts the list to Slack, giving the team one place to see what was published.

Set up: new comments sent to Slack

You will have a workflow that posts every new comment on your site to a Slack channel.

  1. Connect Slack

Add a Slack connection under Connects in FlowMattic. WordPress is your own site, so no connection is needed for it.

  2. Start with New Comment

Create a workflow and choose the WordPress New Comment trigger.

  3. Leave a test comment

Comment on any post so FlowMattic captures the comment's fields, including the post ID and author.

  4. Post to Slack

Add Send Channel Message, pick your moderation channel, build the text from the comment fields, test it and switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • Slack has no triggers in FlowMattic, so you cannot publish or approve content from Slack. The workflows here start on your site, on a Schedule or with a Webhook.
  • Get Posts by Post Type returns a list. Loop over it with Iterator if each post needs its own message.
  • Find User by Email depends on the WordPress email and the Slack profile email being the same address.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

WordPress and Slack connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

Runs where the content lives

FlowMattic is a plugin on the same WordPress site, so comments and user details go straight from your database to Slack.

Busy sites pay the same

Runs are unlimited, so a site with hundreds of comments a day does not need a bigger plan to report each one.

Uses WordPress's own events

With WordPress triggers for everything from logins to post meta changes, you can report on site activity that outside tools cannot see.

Common questions

How does the WordPress Slack integration work?

FlowMattic listens for WordPress events such as New Post, New Comment or New User on your site and runs a Slack action like Send Channel Message. You build and test the workflow in wp-admin, and it runs on your server.

Can I get alerts only for one post type or category?

Yes. Add a Filter after the trigger that checks the post type or category the trigger sends, and continue only when it matches.

Can I be told about logins to admin accounts?

Yes. Use the User Login trigger, filter on the user's role and send a private channel message or a direct message to the site owner.

Can I hear about new WooCommerce or LMS users too?

New User fires for any account created on the site, whatever plugin created it. Add a Router or Filter on the role so shop customers, students and staff go to different channels.

Can Slack messages create WordPress posts?

Not from Slack itself, since Slack has no triggers here. You can create posts with the New Post action from other triggers, such as a form, a sheet row or a Webhook.
