Connect WordPress and OpenAI (ChatGPT)

Put OpenAI to work on the things your WordPress site already produces. When a post goes live or a comment arrives, FlowMattic sends the text to ChatGPT with your prompt and does something useful with the answer: an editor summary, a reply draft, suggested tags, a header image or a spoken version of the article.

When WordPress fires New Post, FlowMattic runs Generate Content in OpenAI (ChatGPT) with the data from that event.

WordPress and OpenAI (ChatGPT) workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Email your editor a short summary of every new post

Editors of busy blogs read three sentences instead of the whole article to decide what to promote. OpenAI writes the summary and an email delivers it with the title and link.

Draft a polite reply to each new comment for approval

Site owners who answer every reader get a ready reply in their inbox. They edit it if needed and post it, which keeps the tone human without starting from a blank box.

Check new comments against OpenAI's content policy

Create Moderation classifies the comment text. A Router alerts a moderator only when the result is flagged, so a team with an open comment section reviews fewer comments by hand.

Suggest tags for a post and add them

Ask ChatGPT for three short tags based on the title and content, split its answer and attach each tag, so archives and related-post widgets stay useful on sites with many authors.

Make a header image from the post title

Small publishers without a designer get a starting image for every post. Generate Image uses a prompt built from the title, and the result is added to the media library.

Write a weekly draft post for a person to finish

Every Monday OpenAI drafts a post from your standing brief, for example a round-up of the week's topics. A Human in the Loop step asks for approval before WordPress creates it.

Set up: email a summary of each new post

At the end, each post you publish triggers a short OpenAI summary that lands in your editor's inbox.

  1. Connect OpenAI (ChatGPT)

In Connects, add an OpenAI (ChatGPT) connection with an API key from your OpenAI account.

  2. Start from New Post

Create a workflow with the WordPress New Post trigger and publish a test post so FlowMattic captures its title, content and link.

  3. Write the prompt

Add an OpenAI step with Generate Content and ask for a three-sentence summary, inserting the post title and content from the trigger.

  4. Send the email

Add an Email (SMTP) step to your editor with the summary, the title and the permalink, test it, then switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • OpenAI (ChatGPT) has no triggers, so these workflows start from a WordPress event, a Schedule or a Webhook.
  • The WordPress actions here include no step to approve, spam or delete a comment, so moderation workflows alert a person who then acts on the comment.
  • AI output can be wrong or off-tone. Where text is published without review, add a Human in the Loop step in front of the WordPress action.
  • When a later step reads the answer, for example to split tags, ask ChatGPT for a fixed format such as a comma-separated list with no other text.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

WordPress and OpenAI (ChatGPT) connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

Your prompts, your site

Post content and comments go from your own WordPress server straight to OpenAI with your API key. No other automation account sits in between.

No per-task bill from us

FlowMattic runs are unlimited, so summarising every post or checking every comment costs nothing beyond your OpenAI usage.

Act on the answer in WordPress

The response can go straight back into WordPress as a tag, a media file or a new post, not just into an email.

Common questions

Can ChatGPT write and publish posts on my WordPress site?

Yes. Generate Content writes the text and the WordPress New Post action creates the post. Most sites put a Human in the Loop approval step between the two so a person reads the draft before it reaches readers.

Which OpenAI actions can I use with WordPress?

Generate Content, Ask Chat GPT, Generate Image, Generate Text to Speech, Create Transcription, Create Translation and Create Moderation. Any of them can follow a WordPress trigger such as New Post, New Comment or New Media.

Can it moderate comments for me?

It can classify them. Create Moderation checks the comment against OpenAI's content policy and a Router sends flagged ones to a moderator. Approving or removing the comment is still done in WordPress, because there is no comment moderation action in this workflow.

Can OpenAI translate my posts into another language?

Yes, with Generate Content and a prompt that asks for the translation, followed by the WordPress New Post action for the translated copy. Create Translation is a different job: it turns spoken audio in another language into English text.

Can I transcribe audio uploaded to the media library?

Start from New Media, use a Filter so only audio files continue, and send the file to Create Transcription. The text can then go into a new post or an email.
