Connect AI Agents and Google Drive

Shared Drive folders fill up with scans called IMG_2041 and drafts nobody has summarised. FlowMattic AI Agents do the tidy-up and the writing: they rename new uploads, decide which folder a file belongs in, sum up review comments and save drafted documents back to Drive. Office managers, agencies and content teams set it up once in a workflow on their own WordPress site.

When this happens in Google Drive4 triggers

Do this in AI Agents1 action

1. TriggerNew File
2. ActionExecute Agent

When Google Drive fires New File, FlowMattic runs Execute Agent in AI Agents with the data from that event.

You build this in the FlowMattic workflow builder on your own site. See the setup steps

AI Agents and Google Drive workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Give every new upload a clear, consistent name

The agent reads the original file name, type and upload date and returns a name in your house pattern, such as date, client and document type, which Update File/Folder Name applies.

Sort an inbox folder into the right subfolders

Files dropped into one intake folder get a category from the agent, invoice, contract or photo, and a Router moves each file to the folder for that category.

Sum up review comments on a changed draft

When a draft in the review folder is updated, its comments are fetched, the agent groups them into agreed changes and open questions, and the summary is posted back as a comment for the author.

Draft a proposal from a webhook and share it after approval

A form or CRM sends client details to a Webhook, the agent writes a first proposal, a teammate approves it in Human in the Loop, and the file is saved and shared with the client.

Write a weekly index of what was added to a folder

Each Friday a Schedule lists the files in a project folder, the agent writes a short index grouped by type with one line per file, and it is saved as a new text file in the folder.

Start each new project folder with a starter checklist

Creating a project folder runs the agent on its name, which drafts a kickoff checklist for that kind of job. The checklist is saved inside the folder before anyone adds files.

Set up: rename new uploads

By the end, every file added to your chosen Drive folder is renamed by an AI agent to match your naming pattern.

  1. Connect Google Drive

Under Connects in FlowMattic, add a Google Drive connection with an account that can edit files in the folder.

  2. Watch the folder

Start a workflow with Google Drive New File in Folder, choose the folder and upload a test file so its details are captured.

  3. Write the agent's goal

Add AI Agents with Execute Agent, pick your AI provider, pass in the file name, type and created date, and describe the exact naming pattern you want back.

  4. Apply the new name

Add Google Drive Update File/Folder Name, map the file ID from the trigger and the name from the agent's answer.

  5. Test and switch on

Test each step with the captured file, check the name in Drive and switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • AI Agents has no trigger of its own. Every workflow here starts from a Google Drive trigger, a Schedule or a Webhook.
  • The agent only knows what you map into it, such as a file's name and type from the trigger or the comments returned by List Comments on File.
  • Updated File watches a folder, so writing new files or comments into that same folder can start the workflow again. Save the agent's output to another folder.
  • Agents can get things wrong. Put a Human in the Loop step before Share File, Move File or Transfer Ownership when a mistake would be costly.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

AI Agents and Google Drive connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

Files go only where you send them

Workflows run on your own WordPress site, so file details pass from Google Drive to the AI provider you picked and back, with no automation service in between.

Pay your AI provider, not per run

FlowMattic runs are unlimited on every plan. Model usage is billed by your own provider account, at its rates.

Results land as normal Drive files

Names, comments and new text files appear where your team already works, so nobody needs another app to see what the agent did.

Common questions

What can an AI agent do with Google Drive?

In FlowMattic the Execute Agent step takes the data you give it, such as a file's name or its comments, works towards your goal and returns an answer. Drive actions then use that answer to rename, move, comment on or create files.

Which Google Drive events can start an agent?

New File, New File in Folder, New Folder and Updated File. A Schedule or a Webhook from another app can also start the workflow, for example a weekly folder review.

What kind of file does the agent create?

Create File From Text saves the agent's answer as a new file from plain text in the folder you choose. If you need a PDF, add Export File to PDF afterwards, and use Share File to send it.

Which AI providers can I use?

AI Agents supports OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral, xAI, Groq, DeepSeek, Perplexity and OpenRouter. You pick the provider and model when you set up the agent, so you can use an account you already have.

Can the agent delete or share files on its own?

Only if you add those Drive actions after it. Keep destructive or public steps such as Delete File and Share File with Anyone out, or put Human in the Loop in front of them.
