Connect WordPress and AI Agents

Site owners and editors can hand routine WordPress chores to an AI agent without leaving wp-admin. FlowMattic starts the agent from a WordPress event, such as a new post, comment or user, and writes its answer back into your site as tags, excerpts, draft replies, category descriptions or new draft posts, with a person checking anything public first.

Do this in AI Agents1 action

2. ActionExecute Agent

When WordPress fires New Post, FlowMattic runs Execute Agent in AI Agents with the data from that event.

You build this in the FlowMattic workflow builder on your own site. See the setup steps

WordPress and AI Agents workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Suggest and add tags to each new post

The agent reads the published post and picks tags from the topics it covers. Add Tag to Post applies them, so archives and related-post lists fill out without an editor tagging by hand.

Draft a reply to new comments for approval

The agent writes a short, polite answer to each reader comment. Human in the Loop holds it until the author approves, and only then is it posted as a comment reply.

Write missing excerpts for older posts each week

A weekly Schedule pulls posts of one type, loops over them and asks the agent for a two-sentence summary, then saves it with Update Post so search results and archive pages show real excerpts.

Turn an incoming brief into a draft post

Send a topic and outline to a Webhook from any tool you use for planning. The agent writes a first draft and New Post saves it as a draft for an editor to finish.

Write a description for every new category

Category pages often sit empty. When a category is created, the agent writes a short introduction from its name and Update Category saves it, giving the archive page some text of its own.

Label new members by the interest they describe

Membership and community sites ask new users about themselves. The agent sorts the answer into one of your segments and Update User Meta stores it, ready for welcome emails or role rules.

Set up: tags for each new post

When you finish, every post you publish gets tags chosen by an AI agent from the post's own content.

  1. Choose an AI provider

Have an account and API key ready for the provider your agent will use, such as OpenAI, Anthropic or Google Gemini.

  2. Start from New Post

Create a workflow with the WordPress New Post trigger and publish a test post so FlowMattic captures its title and content.

  3. Configure Execute Agent

Add the AI Agents step, map the post title and content into the prompt, and ask for a short comma-separated list of tags.

  4. Add the tags

Add WordPress Add Tag to Post with the post ID from the trigger and the agent's answer as the tags, test the workflow and switch it on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • Every workflow on this page starts from a WordPress event, a Schedule or a Webhook, with the agent as a step.
  • Ask the agent for a fixed format, such as a comma-separated list or one paragraph, so the answer drops cleanly into the WordPress step.
  • Anything visitors will read, such as comment replies or new posts, is safer as a draft or behind Human in the Loop than published directly.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

WordPress and AI Agents connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

The agent works inside your site

Posts, comments and user details go from WordPress to the agent and back from your own server, with no extra automation service holding your content.

Pick the model you already pay for

The agent can use OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral and other providers, so you keep your existing AI account.

Editors stay in control

WordPress drafts and Human in the Loop let people approve the agent's work, so it handles the first pass and your team signs off.

Common questions

Can the AI agent publish posts on its own?

It can, but most sites save its work as a draft with New Post or Update Post and let an editor publish. Add Human in the Loop if you want approval before anything changes.

Which AI providers can the agent use?

The AI Agents integration supports providers including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral, xAI, Groq, DeepSeek, Perplexity and OpenRouter. You choose one when you set up the agent.

Can I run the agent over posts I published years ago?

Yes. Start with a Schedule, fetch posts with Get Posts by Post Type or Get Posts by Metadata, loop over them with Iterator and run the agent on each.

Can the agent moderate comments?

It can judge a comment and draft a reply, which New Comment then posts. WordPress in FlowMattic has no approve or delete comment action, so moderation itself stays with you.

Does the agent see my whole site?

No. It sees what you map into its prompt, such as the post title and content from the trigger, plus the results of any tools you give it.
