Connect OpenPhone and Google Sheets

Keep a spreadsheet record of what happens on your OpenPhone numbers. FlowMattic writes incoming texts, completed calls and call summaries to Google Sheets, and turns sheet rows into OpenPhone contacts or outgoing texts. Useful for small sales and support teams who report on calls from a shared sheet.

OpenPhone and Google Sheets workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Add each incoming OpenPhone text as a row

The sender's number, the message and the time are logged together, so the team can see every conversation on a shared number in one list.

Keep a call log with duration and direction

Call Completed writes who called, which number answered, how long it lasted and whether it was inbound or outbound, which gives managers a weekly call report.

Save the call summary next to the call

When OpenPhone finishes its summary, Lookup Row Data finds the call's row by ID and Update Row adds the summary, so the log reads as notes, not just numbers.

Text tomorrow's appointments from a sheet every evening

A Schedule reads tomorrow's rows, the Iterator goes through them and Send Text Message reminds each customer from your business number.

Create OpenPhone contacts from a list of leads

Each lead added to the sheet becomes an OpenPhone contact with a name and company, so the next call from that number shows who it is.

Keep the contact sheet current when details change

Contact Updated finds the contact's row and rewrites it, so a sheet shared with people outside OpenPhone always has the latest name and number.

Set up: incoming texts as rows

At the end, every text that arrives on your OpenPhone number is a new row in your sheet.

  1. Prepare the sheet

Add columns such as From, To, Message, Received and Conversation ID.

  2. Connect both apps

Under Connects in FlowMattic, add OpenPhone with an API key from your OpenPhone workspace and Google Sheets with an account that can edit the sheet.

  3. Start with Message Received

Create a workflow with OpenPhone and Message Received, then text your OpenPhone number from another phone so FlowMattic captures a sample.

  4. Write the row

Add Google Sheets Add New Row, map the sender, recipient, body and time, test the step and switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • Call Summary Completed and Call Transcript Completed arrive after the call ends. Write the call ID in its own column so later steps can find the row.
  • Message Received fires for every incoming text on the number. Add a Filter on the recipient number if you only want one line logged.
  • Texts sent from a sheet go out from your OpenPhone number, so test with your own phone first and keep an opt-out column for customers who ask to stop.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

OpenPhone and Google Sheets connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

Call records you can chart

Calls and texts become rows, so you can count calls per teammate or per day with the sheet's own formulas.

The sheet can text back

Reminders and follow-ups go out from your business number using rows your team already keeps.

No limit on logged calls

FlowMattic runs on your own WordPress site with unlimited runs, so a busy phone line costs the same to log as a quiet one.

Common questions

Can I log OpenPhone calls and texts in Google Sheets?

Yes. Use Message Received for texts and Call Completed for calls, each followed by Google Sheets Add New Row. Two small workflows give you a text log and a call log.

Can I add the AI call summary to the sheet?

Yes. A workflow on Call Summary Completed can look up the call's row by its call ID and update a Summary column. Call Transcript Completed works the same way for the full transcript.

Can I send texts from rows in a sheet?

Yes. Start from New Spreadsheet Row, or from a Schedule with Get Rows and an Iterator, and use Send Text Message with the phone number and message from each row.

Do I need a paid OpenPhone plan?

You need an OpenPhone workspace that can create an API key, because FlowMattic connects with one. Check your OpenPhone plan's API access before you start.

Can I record when a contact is deleted?

Yes. Contact Deleted is a trigger, so a workflow can find that contact's row with Lookup Row Data and mark it removed or delete it with Delete Row.
