Your Twilio number takes the texts and calls, and your customers and staff live on WhatsApp. FlowMattic listens to the Twilio number and answers on WhatsApp Cloud API: forward texts to a manager, follow up a missed call, or pick SMS or WhatsApp for each customer. Built for shops, clinics and service teams that run both channels.

WhatsApp Cloud API and Twilio workflows you can build
Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.
Forward texts sent to your Twilio number to a manager on WhatsApp
Whoever owns the line reads incoming SMS on the phone they already carry. The sender's number and message body go into a WhatsApp template message, so nobody logs in to Twilio to check.
Incoming SMS→Send Template Message
Follow up a missed call with a WhatsApp message to the caller
When someone rings your Twilio number, the caller ID from the call goes into a WhatsApp template that says you saw the call and invites them to reply there.
Incoming Call→Send Template Message
Move SMS customers to WhatsApp when they text a keyword
Advertise a keyword such as JOIN on flyers. A Filter checks the text body and only those senders get a WhatsApp template, which opens the chat your team carries on in WhatsApp.

Ring the on-call phone in hours, reply on WhatsApp after hours
Format the call time, then a Router checks it against your opening hours. In hours, Call Phone reads a short alert to the on-call person. After hours, the caller gets a WhatsApp message instead.
Your shop or booking system posts to a Webhook. A Lookup Table maps the country code to the channel people there use, and a Router sends a WhatsApp template or a Twilio SMS.
Summarise long text threads for the owner on WhatsApp
Some customers send several texts in a row. An AI Agent turns each one into a short line with the intent and urgency before it is forwarded, so the owner can triage from the lock screen.
When you finish, every SMS that reaches your Twilio number arrives on a chosen WhatsApp number as a template message.
1
Connect Twilio
Under Connects, add a Twilio connection with the account that owns the phone number you want to watch.
2
Connect WhatsApp Cloud API
Add a WhatsApp Cloud API connection for the business phone number that will send the messages.
3
Start with Incoming SMS
Create a workflow with the Twilio Incoming SMS trigger, then text the number from your own phone so FlowMattic captures the sender and body.
4
Send the template
Add Send Template Message, choose the template, put the sender number and message body into its variables, test it and switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair
A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.
Good to know
These workflows only send through WhatsApp Cloud API, so a reply on WhatsApp does not start one of them. Every example here starts from Twilio, a Webhook or a Schedule.
Send Text, Image, Video and Document Message reach only people with an open chat session. For a first contact, such as a missed caller, use Send Template Message.
Twilio gives numbers with a plus sign and country code. If your template or recipient field expects digits only, clean the number with Text Formatter first.
WhatsApp Cloud API and Twilio connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.
Phone numbers stay on your server
Caller IDs and message bodies pass from Twilio to WhatsApp through your own WordPress site, not through a third automation account.
Flat cost for a busy line
FlowMattic runs are unlimited, so you pay Twilio and Meta for the messages themselves and nothing extra per forwarded text.
Each customer on their own channel
Routers and Lookup Tables decide between SMS and WhatsApp per message, which suits businesses selling into several countries.
Common questions
Can I forward SMS from Twilio to WhatsApp?
Yes. Start a workflow with the Twilio Incoming SMS trigger and add WhatsApp Cloud API Send Template Message addressed to your own number. Put the sender and the text into the template's variables.
Why does Send Text Message fail for a missed caller?
WhatsApp only allows free text to someone who has an open session with your business number. A caller who never messaged you has none, so the first message has to be a template.
Can a WhatsApp reply send an SMS back through Twilio?
Not with these two apps alone, because WhatsApp Cloud API has no trigger here. Twilio texts and calls, or a Webhook from another tool, are what start these workflows.
Can I call someone instead of texting them?
Yes. Twilio Call Phone dials a number and reads out the message you write, which works well for urgent alerts to an on-call person alongside a WhatsApp message to the customer.
Do I need a separate Twilio number for WhatsApp?
No. In these workflows Twilio handles SMS and calls on its own number, and WhatsApp messages go out from the business number set up in your WhatsApp Cloud API connection.
