Mailchimp reaches people by email and Twilio reaches the same people by text or phone call. FlowMattic connects them on your WordPress site: a new subscriber can get a welcome SMS, a keyword texted to your Twilio number can add someone to an audience, and a cleaned email address can prompt a text asking for a new one.

Mailchimp and Twilio workflows you can build
Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.
Ready-made template
Send a welcome SMS to each new Mailchimp subscriber
Subscribers who gave a phone number get a short text from your Twilio number thanking them and saying what to expect, alongside the welcome email.
Put a number on posters or a stage screen: text JOIN plus your email. Text Formatter pulls out the address, Add New Member subscribes it and Send SMS confirms.
Incoming SMS→Text Formatter→Add New Member→Send SMS
Text members whose email address was cleaned
When Mailchimp cleans an address that keeps bouncing, a text to the phone on file asks for a working email, so a typo does not cost you the subscriber.
Cleaned Emails→Send SMS
Text yourself when a campaign is created or sent
Owners of small shops who leave email to a freelancer get an SMS with the campaign's subject when it is created or goes out, so a mistake can be caught early.
New Campaign→Send SMS
Tag members who text STOP as SMS opt-outs
A Filter catches STOP replies to your Twilio number. The sender's email from your records gets an SMS opt-out tag in Mailchimp, so later SMS workflows can skip them.
Incoming SMS→Filter→WP Tables→Add Member Tag
Log incoming calls as notes on the Mailchimp member
When a known customer calls your Twilio number, their number is matched in a WP Tables lookup and a note with the call time is added to their Mailchimp profile.

Set up: a welcome SMS for subscribers
At the end, each new Mailchimp subscriber with a phone number receives a welcome text from your Twilio number.
1
Collect phone numbers
Add a phone field to your Mailchimp signup form, ideally with the country code, and a line that says you will text them.
2
Connect both accounts
Add Mailchimp and Twilio under Connects. For Twilio, have your account details and the sending number ready.
3
Start with New Subscriber
Create a workflow with the Mailchimp New Subscriber trigger, choose the audience and add a test subscriber.
4
Skip blank numbers
Add a Filter that continues only when the phone merge field has a value. Text Formatter can tidy the number first.
5
Send the SMS
Add Twilio Send SMS, map the phone and write a message with the first name. Test it on your own number and switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair
A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.
Good to know
Mailchimp finds members by email, so workflows that start from a text or call need the sender's email, either in the message or from your own lookup table.
Twilio needs the phone number with its country code. Mailchimp phone fields are often filled without one, so format them before Send SMS.
Texting someone because they joined an email list may need separate SMS consent where you operate. Ask for it on the form and filter on it.
Cleaned Emails means Mailchimp stopped sending to that address. Update the email in Mailchimp once the member replies with a new one.

Make API CallSend a custom request to any Mailchimp Marketing API endpoint. Power-user escape hatch
Mailchimp and Twilio connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.
Reach people when email fails
Bounced and cleaned addresses get a second chance by text, which saves subscribers you already paid to acquire.
No charge per run
FlowMattic runs are unlimited, so you pay Twilio for messages and nothing extra for the workflows that send them.
Phone numbers stay on your site
Any lookup table that matches numbers to emails lives in WP Tables on your WordPress server, not in a third-party tool.
Common questions
Can Mailchimp send SMS through Twilio?
Yes, with FlowMattic in between. Mailchimp triggers such as New Subscriber or Cleaned Emails start a workflow that runs Twilio Send SMS to the phone number stored in the member's merge field.
Can a text message add someone to my Mailchimp audience?
Yes. Incoming SMS can start a workflow that reads an email address from the message and runs Add New Member. A reply SMS confirms the signup.
Can I call members instead of texting them?
Twilio Call Phone rings a number and reads out a message. It suits urgent reminders to staff or VIP customers better than routine marketing.
Can different audiences get different welcome texts?
Yes. Build one workflow per audience, or use a Router on the audience in a single workflow, with a Send SMS step on each path.
Do texts go out at night?
They go out when the trigger runs. Add a Delay or check the hour with Date/Time Formatter and a Router to hold messages until morning.
