Connect WP Tables and Slack

WP Tables keeps spreadsheet-style data inside your WordPress database: requests, inventory, applications, project lists. FlowMattic tells Slack when that data changes, from a new row to one watched cell, and lets anyone send a row to a colleague with the table's button. It is for teams who track work in WP Tables and talk about it in Slack.

Do this in Slack14 actions

1. TriggerUpdated Cell
2. ActionSend Channel Message

When WP Tables fires Updated Cell, FlowMattic runs Send Channel Message in Slack with the data from that event.

You build this in the FlowMattic workflow builder on your own site. See the setup steps

WP Tables and Slack workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Alert a channel when a watched cell changes

Watch one column, such as Status or Priority. When it changes, the channel hears which row moved and its new value, without noise from other edits.

Post every new row to the team channel

New requests, sign-ups or tickets added to the table are announced with their key columns, so someone picks them up straight away.

Send a row to a colleague with the table button

Clicking the trigger button on a row sends its details as a direct message to the person named in the Owner column.

Ask an approver in Slack, then wait for the decision

A new row posts to the approvals channel, the workflow waits on the row's approve or reject button, and the requester gets a direct message with the outcome.

Log deleted rows in a private channel

When a row is removed, its last values go to a private admin channel, which gives you a record if something was deleted by mistake.

A Schedule finds every row still marked Open and posts them as one message, so the day starts with a clear queue.

When a row is added to the projects table, the person in its Assignee column is invited to the channel named in the row.

Set up: alerts for a watched cell

At the end, Slack posts a message each time the column you choose changes in your table.

  1. Connect Slack

Under Connects, add a Slack connection. WP Tables lives in your WordPress database and needs no connection.

  2. Trigger on Updated Cell

Create a workflow with WP Tables and Updated Cell, pick the table and the column to watch, then change that cell once to capture the data.

  3. Write the alert

Add Slack Send Channel Message, choose the channel and build the text from the row's name column and the new value.

  4. Test and switch on

Test the step, check the message in Slack and switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • Updated Record fires on any change to a row. Updated Cell watches one column, which keeps a busy channel quieter.
  • These workflows post table events to Slack, so replies in Slack do not change the table. Use WP Tables actions such as Update Record or Update Cell inside the workflow.
  • Direct messages and invites need a Slack user, so keep an email column in the table and look the person up with Find User by Email.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

WP Tables and Slack connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

Your data stays in WordPress

Rows live in your own database and pass through your own server on the way to Slack.

Buttons start the work

The table's trigger button and approve or reject buttons let people act on a row and have Slack hear about it.

As many alerts as you need

Runs are unlimited, so a table that changes all day can post every change without a usage bill.

Common questions

Can WP Tables alert Slack when a row is added or updated?

Yes. Use New Record for added rows, Updated Record for any change, or Updated Cell for one column, followed by Slack Send Channel Message with the columns you want shown.

Can I approve a row from Slack?

The decision is made with the approve or reject button in the table. Slack carries the request and the result: post the row to an approver, add Continue on Approve or Reject Button, then message the outcome.

Can one table send to different channels?

Yes. Add a Router on a column such as Team or Priority, and give each path its own Send Channel Message with a different channel.

Is WP Tables the same as Google Sheets?

No. WP Tables stores its rows in your WordPress database, so there is no outside spreadsheet account. It works the same way in a workflow: row and cell triggers, and actions to find, update and delete records.
