Connect WordPress and Tutor LMS

Course sites built on Tutor LMS already run on WordPress, but the two do not talk about roles, signups and progress on their own. FlowMattic links them on the same site: new users can be enrolled in a starter course, roles can grant or remove course access, and finishing a course can change what a student sees on the rest of your site.

When WordPress fires New User, FlowMattic runs Enroll User in Tutor LMS with the data from that event.

You build this in the FlowMattic workflow builder on your own site. See the setup steps

WordPress and Tutor LMS workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Enrol every new user in your starter course

Anyone who registers on the site is enrolled in a free introduction course straight away, so their first login shows them something to do.

Give course access when a membership role is added

Membership and payment plugins often grant a role. A Filter checks which role was added and enrols the member in the courses that come with that tier.

Remove course access when the role is taken away

When a member's paid role is removed, for example after a cancelled plan, their enrolment is removed too, so access ends with the membership.

Give graduates a role that opens the alumni area

Finishing a course adds an alumni or graduate role, which your membership rules can use to open a community page, advanced content or a discount.

Turn student questions into draft FAQ posts

Each question posted in a course becomes a draft post for the instructor. Answer the common ones once on a public FAQ page instead of in every course thread.

Save the enrolment date on the user profile

Store the course name and enrolment date in user meta, so other plugins, profile pages or reports on your site can read when each student joined.

Enrol everyone with a role in a newly launched course

When you launch a course, run a Schedule once to fetch all users with a role, loop over them with Iterator and enrol each one, with no clicking through students one by one.

Set up: new users in a starter course

When you finish, each new WordPress user is enrolled in the Tutor LMS course you choose.

  1. Pick the course

Decide which Tutor LMS course new users should join, usually a free introduction or onboarding course.

  2. Start from New User

Create a workflow with the WordPress New User trigger and register a test account so FlowMattic captures the user ID and email.

  3. Add Enroll User

Add a Tutor LMS step with Enroll User, map the user ID from the trigger and choose the course.

  4. Test and switch on

Test the step, check the test user's dashboard in Tutor LMS, then switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • Both are on the same WordPress site, so no connection is needed. Tutor LMS must be active for its triggers and actions to appear.
  • Tutor LMS actions work on existing WordPress users. When the student comes from outside, create the account first with New User or find it with Get User by Email.
  • Role names depend on your membership or payment plugin, so check the exact role slug before you build the Filter.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

WordPress and Tutor LMS connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

Roles and courses agree

Access in Tutor LMS follows the roles your site already uses, so membership changes do not need someone to fix enrolments by hand.

Everything stays on your site

WordPress, Tutor LMS and FlowMattic run in one install, so student data never leaves your server for these workflows.

Large cohorts cost nothing extra

Runs are unlimited on every plan, so enrolling a whole membership base or a big cohort is the same price as one student.

Common questions

Can a WordPress role give access to a Tutor LMS course?

Yes. Start from User Role Added or User Role Changed, check the role with a Filter and use Enroll User. Pair it with User Role Removed and Remove User Enrollment to take access away.

Can I enrol existing users in bulk?

Yes. Use Get All Users by Role on a one-off Schedule, loop over the list with Iterator and add Enroll User inside the loop.

Can quiz results change anything on the site?

Yes. User Attempts and Passes a Quiz, User Attempts and Fails a Quiz and User Achieves Percentage in Quiz can each add a role, update user meta or create a post.

Can I move students' progress over from another course?

Tutor LMS has Mark Single Lesson Complete, Mark Single Course Complete and the Mark All actions, so a workflow can set progress for users you have moved in.

Can a student start a course again from scratch?

Yes. Reset User Progress for Course clears progress in one course and Reset User Progress for All Courses clears every course, for example when someone retakes training each year.
