Connect WPForms and WordPress

WPForms collects the details; WordPress is where accounts, posts and roles live. FlowMattic turns each entry into the change it was meant for: a sign-up becomes a user, a guest article becomes a draft, a profile form updates user meta, a privacy form opens a data request. Made for membership sites, directories and blogs that take submissions.

When WPForms fires New Form Submission, FlowMattic runs New User in WordPress with the data from that event.

WPForms and WordPress workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Register a WordPress user from a WPForms sign-up form

Your own styled form creates the account, with the role you choose and any extra fields saved as user meta, instead of the default WordPress registration screen.

Save guest articles as draft posts for an editor

Writers submit a title, body and category through WPForms. Each entry becomes a draft post in that category, so an editor reviews it in the normal editor before it goes live.

Update member profiles from a WPForms profile form

Members fill in a form with their bio, city or company. The workflow finds their account by email and writes each answer to user meta that your theme or directory reads.

Promote approved applicants to a vendor or author role

An application form asks why the person wants to sell or write. A Filter passes the approved entries and Change User Role gives that existing account the new role.

Publish directory listings with the uploaded photo as thumbnail

A listing form takes a business name, description and logo. The workflow creates the post, adds the upload to the Media Library and sets it as the featured image.

Start a personal data export from a privacy request form

Visitors ask for their data through a WPForms form. The workflow files a WordPress export request for their email, which WordPress confirms with them by email.

Post event feedback as a comment on the event page

Attendees rate a workshop in WPForms, and their comment is added to the event's post so later visitors read real feedback without a separate reviews plugin.

Set up: a WordPress user per sign-up

When you finish, each entry on your WPForms registration form creates a WordPress account.

  1. Build the form

In WPForms, add fields for name, email and a username, plus anything you want stored on the profile.

  2. Trigger on New Form Submission

Create a FlowMattic workflow with the WPForms trigger and choose the form. WPForms runs on the same site, so no connection is needed. Submit it once to capture the fields.

  3. Add New User

Add WordPress New User, map email, username, first and last name, and pick the role new members should get.

  4. Test and switch on

Test with an email that has no account, check the new user under Users in wp-admin and turn the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • WordPress refuses a second account with the same email or username. On forms people may send twice, use Create User if Not Exists instead of New User.
  • Set guest posts to draft or pending in New Post. Publishing straight from a public form puts anything a visitor types on your site.
  • File upload fields send a link to the uploaded file. Pass that link to New Media to add it to the Media Library before using it as a thumbnail.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

WPForms and WordPress connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

Nothing leaves your WordPress install

WPForms, FlowMattic and WordPress all run on the same site, so entries become users and posts without passing through any outside service.

Open sign-ups at no extra cost

Runs are unlimited, so a registration form that creates hundreds of accounts a day needs no larger plan.

More WordPress changes than a form add-on

Beyond users and posts, the workflow can set roles, write user meta, attach media, add comments and start privacy requests.

Common questions

Can WPForms create WordPress users without the User Registration addon?

Yes. FlowMattic's WordPress New User action creates the account from any WPForms form. You choose the role and map the fields, and the form does not need a registration addon.

Can the new user set their own password?

Add a password field to the form and map it in New User, or leave it out and add Send Password Reset after the user is created so WordPress emails them a link.

Can submitted posts go into a custom post type?

New Post lets you pick the post type, so listings, recipes or events can each go to their own type with the category or taxonomy the form chose.

How do I update an existing user instead of creating one?

Find the account with Get User by Email, then use Update User or Update User Meta with the form's answers. Add a Router if the same form should create new users too.

Can I handle data erase requests with WPForms?

Yes. Map the visitor's email to GDPR Request Erase Personal Data. WordPress sends its usual confirmation email, and once confirmed you can run GDPR Execute Erase Personal Data.
