Connect Airtable and Mailchimp

Airtable is often where contacts are collected first: event lists, partner directories, leads from a sales team. Mailchimp is where they get emailed. FlowMattic adds new Airtable records to your audience with the right tags, and keeps an Airtable log of who joins, who leaves and which campaigns went out. It suits event teams, nonprofits and marketers who report from Airtable.

Airtable and Mailchimp workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Add new Airtable records to your Mailchimp audience

Each new record with an email becomes an audience member, so a list built in Airtable by your team or a form is ready to email without exporting it.

Tag new members by the interest field in Airtable

A Lookup Table turns the record's interest value into one of your Mailchimp tags, and Add Member Tag applies it, so segments for each topic fill themselves.

Note which event each Airtable attendee came to

Records in an Attendees table are added to the audience, and Add Member Note writes the event name and date on the member, so anyone looking them up in Mailchimp sees the history.

Log every new Mailchimp subscriber in Airtable

People who sign up through Mailchimp forms land in an Airtable table with their email, name and signup date, where you can link them to other tables and build growth reports.

Each unsubscribe is added to an Unsubscribes table with the date and campaign, so you can see which sends cost you readers when you review the month.

New Campaign adds a record with the subject and send details whenever a campaign is created or sent, giving the content team a shared calendar of what went out.

Collect cleaned addresses in a table to review

Addresses Mailchimp cleans after bounces are listed in Airtable, so whoever owns the source list can correct them where the data came from.

Set up: Airtable records as members

When you are done, every new record in your chosen Airtable table is added to your Mailchimp audience.

  1. Connect both apps

In FlowMattic Connects, add your Airtable account and the Mailchimp account that owns the audience.

  2. Trigger on New Record

Create a workflow with Airtable and New Record, choose the base and table, and add a test record so FlowMattic captures its fields.

  3. Skip records with no email

Add a Filter that continues only when the email field has a value, since a record can exist before anyone fills it in.

  4. Add the member

Add Mailchimp with Add New Member, pick the audience, map email and name, test it and switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • A record created by typing a new row in Airtable can trigger before its email is filled in. A Filter on the email field, or adding records through a form, avoids empty runs.
  • Airtable has no search action here, so Mailchimp events create new Airtable records rather than updating an existing one.
  • Airtable has one trigger, New Record, so editing a record later does not update the Mailchimp member.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

Airtable and Mailchimp connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

Contacts pass through your server

Records travel from Airtable to Mailchimp through FlowMattic on your own WordPress site, not through another automation account.

Big imports, flat cost

Runs are unlimited, so pasting five hundred event attendees into Airtable adds every one to Mailchimp without a task bill.

Reports where you already work

Subscribers, unsubscribes and campaigns logged in Airtable can be linked and charted with the rest of your data.

Common questions

How does the Mailchimp Airtable integration work in FlowMattic?

New records in an Airtable table can add members to a Mailchimp audience with tags and notes, and Mailchimp events such as new subscribers, unsubscribes and campaigns can create Airtable records. Each direction is its own workflow built on the FlowMattic canvas.

Can a change in Airtable update an existing Mailchimp member?

Airtable's only trigger here is New Record, so edits to existing records do not start a workflow. New records are the way to add or tag members.

Can I add members to different audiences?

Yes. Put a Router after New Record and give each path its own Add New Member step with a different audience, based on a field such as region or brand.

Will people who unsubscribed be added again?

Mailchimp keeps its own record of unsubscribed addresses. To be safe, add a Filter on a consent field in Airtable so only people who agreed to email are sent.

Can Mailchimp subscribers be linked to other Airtable tables?

Yes. Create the record in a Subscribers table, then link it by hand or with another workflow to tables such as Events or Companies.
