Connect Airtable and Google Sheets

Teams often end up with some data in Airtable and the rest in Google Sheets, usually because different people prefer different tools. FlowMattic keeps the two in line from your WordPress site: new records become rows, new rows become records, and edits in the sheet update the matching record. Nobody has to export or paste between them.

2. ActionAdd New Row

When Airtable fires New Record, FlowMattic runs Add New Row in Google Sheets with the data from that event.

Airtable and Google Sheets workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Copy each new Airtable record into a sheet

Teammates and clients who only use Google Sheets get a row for every new record, without being added to the Airtable base.

Create an Airtable record from each new row and save its ID

Rows added in the sheet become records, and the new record ID is written back into the row so later edits can find the right record.

Send sheet edits to the matching Airtable record

When a row with a stored record ID changes, the same fields are updated in Airtable, so the base reflects what people typed in the sheet.

Fill in record details from a lookup sheet

A new record has only a product code. The workflow finds that code in a price sheet and writes the name and price into the record.

Archive a sheet's rows into Airtable each month

A monthly Schedule reads a busy log sheet and creates a record for each row in an archive base, where linked fields and views make history easier to search.

Standardise country names with AI before filing records

Free-text countries and regions from a sheet are normalised by an AI Agent step, so the Airtable record uses one spelling for each place.

Set up: new records copied to a sheet

When finished, each record created in your Airtable table is copied to a Google Sheet as a new row.

  1. Mirror the fields as headers

Give the sheet one column per Airtable field you want, plus a Record ID column.

  2. Connect both apps

In FlowMattic, add an Airtable connection and a Google Sheets connection under Connects.

  3. Watch the table

Create a workflow with Airtable New Record, choose the base and table, and add a test record.

  4. Add the row

Add Add New Row, map each field and the record ID to its column, test the step and switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • Airtable's only trigger is New Record. Changes made in Airtable do not start a workflow, so treat the sheet as the place for edits when you sync both ways.
  • Update Record needs the Airtable record ID. Store it in the sheet when the record is created and map it in every update.
  • Fields that hold several values, such as multi-select or linked records, may need a Text Formatter step to fit in one cell. Check the captured test record first.
  • If one workflow writes rows and another watches the same tab, a new row can loop back as a new record. Use separate tabs for each direction.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

Airtable and Google Sheets connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

Each team keeps its own tool

Airtable users keep their views and links, sheet users keep their formulas, and FlowMattic moves the data between them.

Data travels through your site

Records and rows pass through your WordPress server rather than a third service.

Big bases, same price

Runs are unlimited, so archiving or syncing thousands of rows does not need a bigger plan.

Common questions

Is this a true two-way sync?

Partly. New Airtable records and new or edited sheet rows can each start a workflow, but edits made inside Airtable cannot, because Airtable's only trigger is New Record.

Can I copy existing records into the sheet?

The New Record trigger handles records from now on. For older records, export a view from Airtable once and paste it, then let the workflow keep the sheet current.

Can I remove records when they are no longer needed?

Yes. Delete Record removes a record by its ID. For example, a Status column set to Remove can start a workflow that reads the stored Record ID and deletes that record in Airtable.

Can one sheet feed several Airtable tables?

Yes. Add a Router after the sheet trigger and send each row to a Create Record step for the right table based on a column value.

Can I check a record before copying it?

Yes. Add a Filter after New Record, or read the full record with Get Record, and continue only when a field such as Status or Region matches what the sheet should hold.
