Connect WooCommerce and WhatsApp Cloud API

Plenty of shoppers read WhatsApp long before they open an order email. FlowMattic sends WooCommerce events to the WhatsApp Cloud API, so buyers get order updates, payment nudges and reward codes on the app they check most. It suits stores that sell on mobile, run cash on delivery, or support customers over WhatsApp already.

When WooCommerce fires New Order Created, FlowMattic runs Send Template Message in WhatsApp Cloud API with the data from that event.

WooCommerce and WhatsApp Cloud API workflows you can build

Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.

Confirm each new WooCommerce order on WhatsApp

The buyer gets a template message with their name, order number and total as soon as the order exists, which cuts down the where-is-my-order questions in the first hour.

Ask cash on delivery buyers to confirm before you ship

A Filter keeps only COD orders, the customer is asked on WhatsApp to confirm, and an order note records that the request went out, so packers know which orders are still unconfirmed.

Tell the customer on WhatsApp when their order is complete

Once you mark an order completed, the buyer hears about it on WhatsApp, with the shipping details you keep on the order mapped into the template.

Win back abandoned carts with a WhatsApp reminder and coupon

Wait an hour, check the cart is still open, then create a one-time coupon and send it over WhatsApp. Shoppers who already finished checkout are skipped by the Filter.

Send a failed payment link before the buyer gives up

When an order fails at payment, a template message with the order's payment link gives the customer an easy second try instead of a silent lost sale.

Reward customers who pass a spending milestone

When a customer's total spend crosses the figure you set, FlowMattic creates a coupon, locks it to their email and sends the code on WhatsApp as a thank-you.

Warn the store manager on WhatsApp about low stock

Product Low Stock sends the product name and remaining quantity to the person who reorders, so popular items get restocked before they sell out.

Set up: WhatsApp order confirmations

At the end, each new WooCommerce order sends the buyer a WhatsApp message built from an approved template.

  1. Prepare a message template

In your WhatsApp Business account, create an order confirmation template with placeholders for name, order number and total, and wait for it to be approved.

  2. Connect WhatsApp Cloud API

In FlowMattic, open Connects and add a WhatsApp Cloud API connection with your business phone number details.

  3. Start with New Order Created

Create a workflow with WooCommerce and New Order Created, then place a test order so FlowMattic captures its fields.

  4. Clean the phone number

Add Text Formatter to strip spaces and add the country code, because shoppers type numbers in many formats.

  5. Send the template

Add Send Template Message, pick the template, map the order fields to its placeholders, test it to your own phone and switch the workflow on.

Triggers and actions in this pair

A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.

Good to know

  • Text, image, video and document messages only reach someone who is in an open conversation with your number. For messages your store starts, use Send Template Message.
  • WhatsApp Cloud API has no triggers here, so a customer's reply cannot start a workflow. Every example starts from a WooCommerce event.
  • WhatsApp needs the full international number. Billing phones are often saved without a country code, so format them before the WhatsApp step.
  • Only message customers who agreed to hear from you on WhatsApp. A checkout opt-in field and a Filter on it keep the rest out.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic

WooCommerce and WhatsApp Cloud API connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.

Orders and phone numbers stay with you

The order data goes from WooCommerce to WhatsApp through FlowMattic on your own WordPress server, not through an outside messaging middleman.

Busy sale days cost the same

Runs are unlimited, so a flash sale with hundreds of orders sends every confirmation without a per-task bill on top of WhatsApp's own pricing.

Use the store data you already have

Coupons, order notes, cart status and spend totals are all WooCommerce steps in the same workflow, so the message can carry a real code or link.

Common questions

Why use template messages instead of plain text?

WhatsApp only lets a business send free text to a person who has an open conversation with it. Order updates are started by your store, so they go out as approved templates with the order details filled into the placeholders.

Can I send the invoice PDF on WhatsApp?

Send Document Message can deliver a PDF, but only inside an open conversation. A common route is a template message with a link to the invoice, or sending the document after the customer has replied.

Can different order statuses send different messages?

Yes. Use the status triggers such as Order Status Set to Processing, Completed or Refunded, one workflow each, with its own template. Or start from Order Updated and use a Router on the status.

Do I need the WhatsApp Business app on a phone?

No. The Cloud API sends from your business number through Meta's platform. You add that number's details to FlowMattic once in Connects.

Can I stop the abandoned cart message if the customer comes back?

Yes. After the Delay, run Check Cart Status and add a Filter so the message is sent only when the cart is still abandoned.
