Treat a Google Sheet as the input and output of ChatGPT. Add a row with a product name, a customer comment or a link to an audio file, and FlowMattic sends it to OpenAI with your prompt and writes the answer back into the same row. Content teams, shop owners and researchers get AI results in the sheet they already use.

1. TriggerNew Spreadsheet Row
2. ActionGenerate Content
When Google Sheets fires New Spreadsheet Row, FlowMattic runs Generate Content in OpenAI (ChatGPT) with the data from that event.
You build this in the FlowMattic workflow builder on your own site. See the setup steps
OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Google Sheets workflows you can build
Each one uses only triggers and actions the two integrations ship today, plus FlowMattic's own tools. Where the library has a ready-made template, import it instead of building from scratch.
Write a product description for each new row
Shop owners list a product name and three features. Generate Content turns them into a description, and Update Row puts the text in the Description column for review.
New Spreadsheet Row→Generate Content→Update Row
Label customer feedback as positive, negative or mixed
Support and product teams paste survey answers into a sheet. Ask Chat GPT returns one word per comment, written into a Sentiment cell that a pivot table can count.
New Spreadsheet Row→Ask Chat GPT→Update Cell Data
Create an image from a prompt typed into the sheet
Marketers plan a batch of social visuals as rows of prompts. Each prompt goes to Generate Image, and the image link is saved beside it to open later.
New Spreadsheet Row→Generate Image→Update Row
Transcribe audio files listed in a sheet
Podcasters and researchers paste a link to each recording. Create Transcription turns the audio into text, which lands in the Transcript column for editing or quoting.
New Spreadsheet Row→Create Transcription→Update Row
Fill a whole column overnight from existing rows
A sheet that already has hundreds of rows needs no copying. A nightly Schedule reads the range, loops over each row with Iterator and fills the empty column.
Editors change a Status column to Approved, a Filter checks that value, and OpenAI writes captions for the approved article only, so no work is spent on drafts.
Update Specific Column Value→Filter→Generate Content→Update Cell Data
When you are done, every product you add to the sheet gets a written description in its own row.
1
Set up the columns
Give the sheet a header row with Product, Features and an empty Description column.
2
Connect both apps
In Connects, add Google Sheets with an account that can edit the file, and OpenAI (ChatGPT) with your API key.
3
Trigger on new rows
Create a workflow with New Spreadsheet Row, pick the spreadsheet and tab, and add a test row so the columns are captured.
4
Prompt OpenAI
Add Generate Content with a prompt that inserts the Product and Features cells and asks for a description of about 80 words.
5
Write it back
Add Update Row for the same row, map the answer to Description, test the workflow and switch it on.

Triggers and actions in this pair
A trigger starts a workflow. An action is something FlowMattic does in the app as a step.
Good to know
OpenAI (ChatGPT) has no triggers, so every workflow starts from a Google Sheets trigger, a Schedule or a Webhook.
Writing back to the same sheet with New Or Updated Spreadsheet Row as the trigger can start the workflow again. Use New Spreadsheet Row or a Filter on an empty column to avoid loops.
When a filter, pivot table or later step reads the answer, ask for a fixed format, such as one word from a list you give.
Generate Image returns a link to the picture, not the picture inside the cell. Use the IMAGE formula in a nearby column if you want a preview.

Why run this pair with FlowMattic
OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Google Sheets connect through FlowMattic on your own site, with no separate automation account in the middle and no charge per run.
Run as many rows as you like
FlowMattic has no task count, so a sheet of two thousand products costs only your OpenAI usage.
Data goes from your server to OpenAI
Rows are read by your own WordPress site and sent to OpenAI with your API key, with no third automation service storing them.
Prompts are easy to change
Edit the prompt in one step and the next row uses it. Keep a test tab to try a new prompt before it touches the main sheet.
Common questions
Can ChatGPT read and write my Google Sheet?
Through FlowMattic, yes. A Google Sheets trigger or Get Row Data reads the cells, an OpenAI action such as Generate Content or Ask Chat GPT produces the answer, and Update Row or Update Cell Data writes it back.
Will it process rows I already have?
New Spreadsheet Row only fires for rows added after the workflow is on. For existing rows, use a Schedule with Get Row Data and Iterator to work through a range, then switch that workflow off when the column is full.
Can I use different prompts for different rows?
Yes. Put a Type column in the sheet and add a Router after the trigger. Each path has its own Generate Content step, for example one prompt for blog titles and another for product copy.
Can it translate a column into another language?
Use Generate Content with a prompt that asks for the translation and write the result to a new column. Create Translation is for audio files and turns speech into English text.
